Next series of releases...The Rehearsals?

So - bearing in mind the spoken intro/instructions on Power Fantastic from SOTT SDE - how wonderful would it be to have official, mastered rehearsals/soundchecks as albums? The stuff that's out there is absolutely superb...to have this in top quality sound, with liner notes from the players there..? I would give them all the money. cool

I'm not really interested in that but I'd buy it if it came out. I'm more interested in more studio outtakes.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I would love it but how would they pick what makes the cut?

If they did that sort of thing I hope they would choose a selection of cuts from later rehearsals. Like the 25 minute version of Xtraloveable drool3

Great Idea.

These have become my new obsession on YT. "Dark" rehearsal is sublime.

80s soundchecks and aftershows are a must.

I have no idea how they would choose - above my payscale! - but a fair selection from aross the tours would be a good place to start. There are some truly wonderful albums all ready and waiting to be released.

Just listening to an '86 rehearsal, this evening, and a comment on there runs something in the spirit of "I'll never tire of listening to The Revolution transition from Controversy to Mutiny" ... yep, you got that right.

Even though HnR Phase One wasn't entirely to my taste, the instrumental rehearsals that I'm seeing pop up are fascinating as a glimpse into what might have been, too.

I have no interest in compilations of unrelated material. Full rehearsals or none.

But rehearsals are also not that interesting from start to finish.

There are definitely some incredible bootleg rehearsals out there. It wouldnt have hurt to include an example within the Super Deluxe Editions or as a bonus audio track on the included dvds. It makes more sense to include them within añ era overview than as separate standalone releases.
I suspect we'll have to make do with the boots out there though.

Phase3

Not really eager for those being that there are a lot of rehearsals in EQ circulating but sure I would purchase them if the estate put them out.Would rather have more outtakes or concerts in dvd or bluray form instead though

I think these need more curating, and not to just put out legalized versions of bootlegs. I hope they dig dep and find some material we haven't heard yet that also shows how Prince worked and still rocks. Maybe it gives insight into some other things, not just a random teaching his band the songs or the first run through on a famous song sort of thing. It would have made sense to include some on the Deluxes but they didn't.

I think that it won't work profitable wise as phyiscal releases.

It could blur the true re-releases like SDE for exzmple. Altough I could be wrong, i'm not an expert, just sayin'.

Maybe they can gain good $$ with downloads or streaming on these rehearsals etc.

Only we die hards will pay for it, no?

-

My die hard music lovers/friends surely are not interested in Prince's rehearsals etc - imho of course.

One of my best friends is a huge Depeche Mode fan and has literally everything he can puts his hands on - which has a very different output and. More remixes and versions, lay outs, etc.

Not my thing, though i'm a huge music lover and love Depche Mode - just sayin'.

Some rare Beatles recordings or releases of the last 20 years I listen to here and there through streaming. Butnot that often. not worth spending money on physical releases.

Same with David Bowie or any other.

Though I love both DM and David Bowie a lot !

This. I'm anxious to hear this album!

You know they're going to promote is as "Prince's Final Album" or something like that.

yes me too. Ever since i heard about it on the dr funkenberrys podcast. It sound really good. even if the Estate dont think it warrants a big release then how about just have it for download. I would certainly pay for it!

I can see that - the download avenue may be the most profitable...although, seriously, there are rehearsals that would serve as a more than passable greatest hits package!

I love that idea and have always wanted to see officially released rehearsals. Some rehearsal bootlegs are among my favorite things to listen to, for example the Noon Rendezvous, often called Neon Rendezvous, is a recording that I often listen to for hours, and it also sounds very cohesive. I also like the Miami soundcheck 1985 a lot, or when he instructs the band how to play a song and you can witness the song developing, for example Someone 2 Call.

But I understand that it´s probably a niche market and only the die-hard fans would buy it but I´d gladly pay a lot of money to have more rehearsals in pristine quality. And even if the sound quality were not that great I´d still pay money to have more rehearsals , especially those warehouse rehearsals from 1983-1985.

They probably excists as video material too.

He used to film it all, I read that somewhere.

Just imagine that. wink

Like those titbits we saw in the ''Nothing Compares 2 U'' video.

To be able to see how he learned to spin and split and all that.

Oh man ... smile

And, it would not be too difficult to set up as a streaming/download service via the official site. Not too difficult at all.
