Anyone else buy "The Beautiful Ones" and Not Read It Through? When I bought it I read a few pages...and put it away.
The Princespeak and such proved hard to get through.
I'm glad I have it though.
Anyone else? [Edited 10/15/20 14:41pm]

Anyone else? [Edited 10/15/20 14:41pm] Same here although my attention span barely holds these days. I couldn't get thru a matchbook

I've only read it once.Dont plan to read it again anytime soon but I am grateful to have it

It was hard to get through, but I made it once. The Morris Day book is 2,000% better.

I got through it quite quickly. Just like everyone else, I wish it was complete.

Try the audio book. Time keeps on slipping into the future...
This moment is all there is...

I looked at all the pictures first(women are visual too!), then I read the book through, two times!

It helped that Morris was able to finish it. Strange how he lied about Prince using Grand Central tapes to get a recording contract though. Prince worked for Chris Moon after he quit Champagne (GC), they did a demo together, then David Z worked on the final demo for Warners. . Chris' interview: https://soundcloud.com/fu...-7-20-2018 Owen Husney donated the original press kit (with demo) to the Minnesota Historical Society - https://www.mnhs.org/media/news/10962

Which Princespeak are you referring to?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Likely the U'sR's2's etc.... I never even bought it once I saw it out with all that... They included his original notes, couldn't the rest be printed like a normal book?

Oh okay... seems a small price to read Prince's own words. Some have paid thousands for his original notes, no biggie -- regular type is included too. [Edited 10/15/20 17:34pm]

Right... His "original notes" are included, so print the version in standard text in standard format. His "own words" aren't predicated on his own shorthand....

Standard text is also included -- they are both there. Most people text these days, so seeing '2', etc. shouldn't be too shocking. [Edited 10/15/20 18:25pm]

I read it quickly, flying through the small amount of text that P wrote. I looked at all the pics and read all the captions. I barely read the song lyrics and none of the Purple Rain script. It’s sitting on my bookshelf. I’m also glad I have it and glad it made it to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Bittersweet.

I have it. Other than a 3-second flick through it when I bought it, I haven't looked at it. Not been that fussed, to be honest. I'm sure I'll look at it eventually.
It was on sale at half price so I thought I'd pick it up.... but it's the music that excites me about Prince, really, not stuff written about (or even by, kind of) him.

Same. I have several Prince books I have purchased and not read. My wife is a reader and gives me so much grief! "I like to watch."

Books like this I usually read over a time period. I'm still reading this one. I think I bought 20+ other books around the same time up till now lol so I'm reading ...

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I enjoyed it. It's Prince in his own words, albeit all too briefly. It provides some incite into what shaped him. My password is what

If there had been an exclusive audio medium included (CD, USB, etc) with unheard music on it, i would have bought it. -I.E.- '21 Nites' -- stuck with a book 'SOTT SD' -- stuck with a book "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

I have been studying handwriting analysis for many years and seeing all of those pages of longhand was a goldmine to me. People don't know what they are showing you with their handwriting. His was very rightward-slanted which indicated he was quite extroverted and his feelings, not his head ruled. His feelings could get away from him at times, but at least it showed emotionality, not reserve or emotional distance. Some artists portray warmth but their handwriting says 'distance'. It had a beautiful rthymic flow, no anxious stops and starts etc. He also had balance. He was interested in both ideas, spirituality, loftier things, as well as more primal urges. Not everyone has balanced handwriting. It showed maturity and evolution. I looked at the pictures and read in from the middle to the end, then the beginning to the end. He humor showed through. Even as a young man, he was a rascal.

Got it pretty much as soon as it was released, glanced through it but haven’t read it, don’t know why really, don’t think it’s necessarily how it’s written or anything, think it’s more of a ‘can’t be bothered reading’ thing, because i buy books quite regularly, and they go on my bookshelf and gather dust. Strange because i really enjoy reading, but just don’t feel like it these days, even tho i still buy them. Hopefully I’ll get round to reading all of them at some stage.

I enjoyed the book and happy to have it, but I do wish it was more complete. So much missing

That's the great thing about books: you can put them away until you find the time to read them of until you're in the right mood. Example: when I first read A Hundred Years of Solitude, I didn't think much of it and put it away. I gave it another try later and now it's one of my favorite books. As for Prince's book, I didn't buy it. I'm just not that interested in his childhood memories. [Edited 10/16/20 10:37am] If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Since the late 80's i had the same train of thought about music mags. i had collected an enourmous amount of RS, Spin, Musician, Guitar, etc. Just last week i put them all (except for Prince related ) in the dumpster. Now the 'Sign O The Times' book is sitting there with nowhere to go and it breaks my heart cuz i just wanted the music. i'm sure 'The Beautiful Ones' is nice to glance at, though.
... THANKS FOR THAT HANDWRITING BREAKDOWN, MARGOT
