Love and Sex VS. Love and Sex

I remember when the 1984 song was released on purple rain deluxe,it seemed to be a favorite around.I haven't been reading the threads around here much for the SOTT set,but I think Love and Sex 1986 version stands out as one of the best songs from the new set.
Which song do you all think is better? I like to compare because they might be the only songs in the prince catalog with the same title.
Love and Sex (1986) is the better one for me

Honestly, I love (and sex) them both equally. L&S86 sounds closer to an 84 style song than an 86 style song so they could almost fit on the same set in my eyes.

Agreed. It kind of gives me Darling Nikki vibes with the drums and tempo and double synth claps.

Yeah I think this is interesting - for me the suprise package on Purple Rain deluxe was "Love & Sex" and now for me the best suprise on SOTTDE is "Love & Sex"! Both great inventive tracks. I want to be able to hear the Sheila version in good quality to ultimately decide which version of "Love & Sex" I love best! <img src=" />

The 1984 version to me is my favorite of the two, although both are so different in vibe that beyond the same it would be like comparing A Place In Heaven to America lol. Both are kickass

Romeoblu

Both are quality songs.

If I had to pick maybe 86. That might be because it's new to me at the moment.

I too would like to hear a good quality version of the Sheila e version, preferably with Prince's vocals.

Everytime I hear him he sing "Sha la la la sha la la boom" in the '84 version I swear he's saying: "Shia, Shia, Shia Labeouf".

Same. But only because the Peach and Black podcast put it in my head back when it came out.

After I already had this thought in my head I did later hear the P&B podcast make the same comment. I was glad to learn I wasn't the only one.

My favorite is Sheila's 86 version. Would love to hear it with Prince vocals.

They are different songs just the same name so you cannot really compare!

But Love and Sex is really probably the highlight of the SOTT set for me, amazing!

Of course you can and the original post notes that they’re different songs.

It’s no different to asking if you prefer Let’s Go Crazy or When Doves Cry!

Personally in regards to the SOTT song, I find it joltingly slow as I’m so used to the Sheila E version which I think is the best.

Love and Sex 84 would have been one of his best album openers if it ever ended up on a project. It really encapsulates Prince's most classic sound.

I’m surprised by how much I like the 86 one – it’s the track that I seem to be returning most at the moment. Normally I’d prefer the anarchic energy and intensity of the earlier one, but there’s just something about the SOTT track that I really love.

This x 1,000. The Sheila E version sounds like it could've been a hit single in '87 (maybe as a follow-up to U Got The Look). The version on the Sign box is just too slow by comparison.

Anyone else think that "Love & Sex" from SOTT Deluxe sounds a little like "Go"? Both songs remind me why I am a Prince fan. Something cool about discovering that some of his best tracks were never released to the masses and kept back for us to discover.

1986, I find nothing appealing in the 1984 version
