Give Thanks to the Estate -

We are quick to complain, let's be as quick to thank the Estate for this absolutely incredible set. I think fans as rabid as us are sometimes too informed to be objective. We have to understand that the Estate/Mike Howe are aiming to please both the average Music lover and us, the most dedicated. I think with this set, they actually had the balance weighted towards us!!

It is obvious to me that the Estate were thinking of Prince's legacy with the effort put into desining this set. From the book, the amazing vault material to the care taken to produce such a superb remaster of the original album.

Mike Howe - keep up the amazing work.

True. The average music lovers prefer shows that are out of pitch. It must have been a real dilemma for Michael Howe. Damn!

Databank... you seem so smart, why not just change the speed yourself and save the effort of complaining about it? Or, is it the complaining you want to do?

It's not easy to make me happy..... (actually it is, as long as you keep it in the 1980s lol ) ..... but I have thoroughly enjoyed the "Purple Rain", "1999", and "Sign O The Times" expanded editions. Especially the last two from the tracks as well as the packaging. The price nearly killed me on the latest one though. lol However, I do wish some of the unreleased full completed albums would be released as well as the remastered expanded deluxe editions of previous released albums. I'd love to have two releases per year..... a previously unreleased full completed album and an expanded deluxe edition of a previous released album. Anyway...... excellent job and please keep 'em coming.

Andy is a four letter word.

After paying hundreds on hundreds of dollars for the damn thing - why should fans have to do ANYTHING?

THIS times a million....
.
I mean JESUS! Some of you are just plain cuckoo- give “thanks” for issuing a flawed product that is sold at a high price?
.
Even if they were GIVING away this stuff, there would be fair reason to complain about quality control issues.
.
Unbelievable

The estate deserves a lot of credit for what they've done so far. They were left a mess by a man who (seriously) never wanted to think about his own death. It was Steve Parke who told us that it was reasonable that he didn't leave a will (a CONtract) because P was a man who thought buying health insurance meant you'd get sick.

My only fear is what will happen when the heirs finally inherit what's left after their expensive attorneys have picked it clean. There's no chance they'll suddenly agree and work as a unit.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Let's hold off sucking the Estate's dick -- it's early, and they're only two albums in. (I don't count Purple Rain deluxe).

Why is it so difficult to upload an avatar?

Everyone I know is enjoying this newest set and the estate certainly deserve encouragement smile but that does not preclude critical comment now or in the future.

I wonder how many of the "experts" would have even noticed things like wrong pitch if it hadn't been pointed out to them.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

I am sure most musicians or just people with a decent innate sense of relative pitch will be able to make it out with ease - I know I definitely did

Don't get me wrong I am very happy I bought the release and am really overall still stoked about all the wonderful content. And I am thankful for this release and 1999 SDE. But I would be more perplexed at those who can hear the intro to Purple Rain from Utrecht for example, and not hear it is slightly off!

.

if by 'expert' you mean literally ANYONE who can pick up a correctly-tuned musical instrument and play a single note?

.

that's ALL you need to do to know the pitch is incorrect.

.

lol

You’re kidding right? It’s noticeable to anyone with functioning ears straightway. No “expertise” required.
.
Dropping an expensive box set with these kinds of errors is akin to dropping a gigantic bowl movement on the consumer.

The Estate sucks.

I don't disagree. THere is criticism but it has to be constructive. I too believe the live set has some slow parts. I also think Shep Pettibone deserves no space on a Prince set. I also wish that they had given us the relevant tracks from te 1998 Crystal Ball set - Movie star, Dream Factory, Last Heart etc. I say this b/c the release from 1998 is brickwalled and the set they just put out sounds superb!!

Having said that, they did an amazing job.

You mean the one that's been circulating eons ago in soundboard quality? With all respect, it puzzles me when folks wish the Estate would release stuff we already have. As nice as the NYE complete video is, I'd still much rather anything else we haven't seen before.

In other words, once it's out, it's out. We will never be able to see/hear/digest whatever lays in the vault. Let's move on with something we don't have already.

is it me or wouldn't this have been better (the live album) with some more audience sound?

RODSERLING

I don't care about hearing audience in a live show. That was a good decision to get rid of them.
.
But the main problem of the content of this boxset( beside an unjustified price) is that the best outtakes were on Crystal Ball (1998).
.
I really thought they would re release CB in December, to give a new push to the SOTT set and make it complementary. But apparently they don't give a shit.
