It be’s like that sometimes This little track is great and has been on a loop for me for a few days. A mixture of sweet and melancholy which is really effective and so simple! and so unlike more ambitious stuff like Adonis and Batsheeba or Wally or cosmic day. This track could have fit on many albums, but as far as I know was never given consideration in any tracklists. It is songs like these that really make me love listening to Prince and excited by the prospect of hearing more of his outtakes.

I really wish I could understand all of the lyrics. I find it very telling that it is kind of a response to his firing of the Rev. That first verse sounds directly related to that. I'm curious what else he's saying. The song has grown on me, but it also kinda of meanders a bit even though it's so short. I feel like it needs a little something something.

Perfect Song...the cool understated funk, brilliant bassline. Sounds influenced by Sly. Can't believe he never released this...wud work in any Era.

Does anybody know the lyrics to this song please? I've looked online in general and on here and can't find them. I can make out some of the lyrics but I'm a bit deaf which doesn't help. Thank you.

The little chords and notes of the keyboards and guitar remind of another song... can't quite place it. Not talking about Eye No or The Ball. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I'm really digging this one too, although I don't like the way it just starts, so I added a bit of the instrumental lead-in to the beginning and it works quite well. I doubt Prince would of used it for release with such an abrupt start.

Last sentence 1st verse I believe is: "Throw you out in the worst weather" possibly referring to his dad putting him out in the Minnesota cold after catching him involved with a girl....if I'm wrong please correct me!!!

Love this song . Wiser words have never been spoken . Love how he'd casually drop mf into songs like this. Reminds me of that Fugees record, "& even after all my logic & my theory, I add a muthafucka so u ignant nuckas here me" . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Yeah this is one of the standout tracks which I have not heard before. It's got a DC go-go vibe to it.

Not one of you mentioned Jill Jones' "Violet Blue" which is the same drum track as this one if you want more added effect. It was recorded the same day. Soon as this track came on I knew it was "Violet Blue". In a sense he has already released this...Violet Blue is just a little more eerie and emotive. It has a little bit of everything in there. There's a little Mountains, a little Eye Know, a little Crystal Ball - and even a little bit of Musicology. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Slight nitpick but it sounds like it's just a split second fade in at the start and it bugs my brain.
