I really like both but the '86 one is fresh in my mind and it's been one of the standouts on the SDE for me. I don't remember being that amazed by the Sheila version much, but Prince's version hooked me in. It has a great vibe, melody - I can almost see a music video in my mind when listening to it which is always a good sign. . I could imagine it on a second Family album in an alternate universe, Paul and Susannah exchanging lyrics at a night-time fair on the ferris wheel, lots of neon etc. . .
Hadn't thought it about but now you say it, I hear it too. . . [Edited 10/14/20 5:26am]

Love and Sex (1986) - that stupid 'bang bang gorilla' song by Bruno Mars sounds like this. It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

1986 just crackles with energy and intensity. Seems his last take of that neon purple-lit sound of 82-84 but this one has some very interesting drums and reverb that I wonder were intentional or just happy accidents. If it was, it may have been a just a peek of what Prince might of done if he did actually try to do Purple Rain II (not literally but musically).

Probably 1984. Liud rambunctious funky and just a killer track. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I was really glad to see the two of them were not remakes of each other because taking synth "Old Prince" stuff and remaking it with horns is never going to win with me. But these are two separate songs altogether and both of them stood out immediately as favorites to me when I heard them on both albums. The vs. thing doesn't work with me though because one is a fast jam and the other is more of a power ballad. I only do the vs. thing with either two fast jams or two slow jams because these two "Love And Sex" songs serve two different purposes....one is for the dancefloor and the other is for the bedroom. . .

The fast funk jam is one of my favorite Prince songs. It literally defines one of his many signature styles, and if you don't like it, you are objectively wrong and have bad taste. I will not budge on this statement. If you don't like this song, your opinion on anything else does not hold weight with me.

I don't get the reference, but I'm glad you felt called out by my calm and truthful comment.

Gotcha (crickets) Anyway, if you're having trouble enjoying fast paced music, I hear they make little blue pills for people your age to keep you on your game. [Edited 10/15/20 12:56pm]

It is actually fairly creepy to respond to an obvious joke ("i will not budge on this statement") like you did, with total sincerity, and then some strange feminine-name calling to boot. Anyway good luck with your still-developing taste
