Since Purple Rain Deluxe (Expanded Edition) Is Going Out Of Print

I think that bodes well for a Super Deluxe (2024). It does not appear they have repressed this title and it's not even available at the official store.

But is there enough material for a 5CD/1DVD or more package?

I know they would use the First Avenue performance but outtakes? DVD? Maybe re-use the same show?

I hope they don't do another PR.

This are 2 many other good projects 4 that.

I think there'd be enough material if they included various stages of several tracks like Computer Blue, Beautiful Ones, When Doves Cry (with bassline, of course) and Take Me With U, plus everything from the movie (Modernaire, Sex Shooter, etc) -- including even the incidental music.

BUT... if they don't include a 5.1 mix / Blu-Ray I think it's an enormous waste of potential. For something as iconic as Purple Rain, a new surround mix would sell incredibly well and would help differentiate this from the previous effort. They should use the Beatles 5.1 mixes as guides.

They should have gotten it right the first time, and his career is too vast to spend so much time in 1983-1987 BUT I'll take a super deluxe PR any day.

I think I would like this next. Done more comprehensively. Get it done and out the way with and then quickly within 6 months follow it up with Parade.

I don’t know how credible apollonia is, but she said that the deleted scenes from PR don't exist anymore.really disappointing if true.

I actually almost feel like this may be the profound release they are working on.

We´ve had a couple of threads on the deleted scenes many, many years ago and from what I remember some knowledgeable orgers came up with info that confirmed that the outtakes from Purple Rain, for example the fight with Jellybean and the barn scene, don´t exist anymore.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If and when there's a proper PR Deluxe box set, the Estate has to allow suckers like me who bought that cheap cardboard-sleeved CD (with the fucked up version of Erotic City) to return it for full credit going towards any new Purple Box box set. That shit was embarassing and disappointing as it was atrocious.

Why is it so difficult to upload an avatar?

You can say it as many times as you like, that is just not going to happen.

It is worth the price simply to have the full WCF that is on there - I would say even though it is a faulty release the fans still come out ahead

I believe they couldn't, or it would've been quite a big financial risk no one was willing to take cause there was that much money available yet.

They had to 'feel' the market first - were there enough fans and other people ready to spend so much money?

They probably didn't even had nor the time or the ability to get through all that unsorted, uncleaned, unmixed, unmastered vault material to get 'it right the first time'.

At least, that's what i think.

They probably discover new (Pruple Rain) stuf every day.

And they finally are now working with more people like Duane Tudahl etc, and even bootleggers to get to that impossible task to make it all comprehensable and organised.

Financially, WB makes out like bandits. The PR Deluxe sold great and soon they get to do it again for a better profit margin. I ain't mad at them. I bought the first remaster but I'll buy the Super Deluxe faster than Trump eating a taco bowl

I hope not !

There is so much more to bring out.

As a download/stream, ok. I can live with that.

Or as an Record Store Day release or something.

No one's really waiting for 'again' another PR release, with even 10/20 extra tracks or so (there aren't that many more left, right?) except for some die hard Prince fans like us.

And don't get me wrong cause I looooove that masterpiece.

But ther's a different kind of vibe right now with this succes of SOTT SDE.

-

SDE of Parade or Lovesexy/Black Album or Dirty Mind/ Controversy would be an obvious better choice.

Hell even his first two albums back to back, but not now, not PR.

Wait untill 2024 at least, and that's my guess, together with a second Originals.

Sorry guys. wink

I'm in the camp that we should absolutely mine the 80s for everything they've got, expecially from '80 to '87. It's his best stuff and there's so much of it. There's no point in delving into the 90s or beyond if we're only doing 1-2 releases a year. It's just not as good.

I hope everything is released (1978-1988) as deluxe editions before they go any further into his career, although I am sure Batman and Diamonds & Pearls may be attractive as they were big sellers.

I'm for it. They should release multiple versions:

1) A complete Super Deluxe set with a comprehensive collection of all the purple rain vault material. First Ave benefit concert and package the movie in too. Big fancy set like Sign O The Times just got. The incentive to buy is you get everything PR related in this box set, in a nice and fancy package. Maybe a new book too.

2) The vault box set. Kinda like that Singles box for Sign Of The Times. Albeit this one will be on CD as well. This box would only have the expanded material that will be made available; the base soundtrack and the songs that were included on the 2016 deluxe version won't be on this one. It's for people who bought any of the previous deluxe sets and don't want to fork over more cash.

Yeah, it's not a set on a par with the recent releases, but it has plenty going for it.

I´m not so sure about that because the leaks ended in the mid 90s so I´m really curious what he recorded in the mid 90s all the way up until the very end.

Revelation was ,in my opinion, a great song and right up there with his classic ballads and I´d love to hear more great music from his later years.
