Good point! The full-length beauty is my 4th favorite Prince song, and I find all parts of it spellbinding. Hearing it as a 7" edit presents some obscure alternative universe in which "Crystal Ball" was released as a single, and it's fascinating to me. So no, it doesn't hold a candle to the full version, but it doesn't have to for me to still love it, I guess!

Yeah I feel you. In my own alternate reality, CB 7" starts clean. That's probably my only gripe with it in general as I adore the full length. I actually don't mind the edit in general - I love that such a challenging song was considered as a single.

This 7" version is the one I had on my boot so it was the only one I knew before hearing the beautiful full version in 98. So I actually like this version for what it is.

Same here, funnily enough I was like "why this song?" when they released it prior to the set coming out as a promotional preview track but now it is quickly becoming one of my favorites on the Vault disks

A song that I knew but never really listened to was Adonis and Bathsheba. I am totally loving more and more. Also Walking in Glory like everyone has said is amazing. Why he slept on this one is beyond me. Cosmic Day is also really growing on me. Was so-so when it came out...but it's become a go-to. Finally I Need a Man. That groove is fierce!

Glad to see I Need a Man getting more recognition lately. Out of the whole collection, that sounds the most like a top 10 hit. I didn't realize he wrote it for Bonnie Raitt.

Strange Relationship is one of my all time favorite songs ever so the original is really the strongest moment for me. Others I am truly loving: Soul Psychodelicide, Promise To Be True, Love and Sex, the remastered Hot Thing, remastered extended U Got the Look, Train, Walkin in Glory, Cocoa Boys, Crucial, and of course Large Room.

Re: the bolded- I wouldn't say all that but I can dig your sentiments as it was always one of my favs off of the original album. That said, hearing the original was an unexpected real treat and makes me appreciate the album version even more- really brings home Prince's gift for arranging and producing. That damn sitar goes hard...

I'm with you, however for some reason I think thge album version has a major impact much more than the extended version which is great in its own right specially because of that sitar.

I'm digging the hell out of:

Walkin In Glory - this one is kicking my ass!

Blanche - so much fun

The two new versions of "Strange Relationship" are revelations, honestly. Maybe I've just loved the song for so long but hearing new elements in it after listening to the SOTT and DF versions so many times really blew me away.

Also growing to love "Eggplant". Am I the only one that much prefers the Prince vocal version over W's? (no hate at all to W tho)

Reminds me of "Dear Mr Man", wonder if that's where he got the idea for that song...
We're here, might as well get into it.

Love and Sex - amazing track kind of a 1999/PR vibe

In a Large Room... - always has been in my top fav boots list

Rebirth of the Flesh - see above

Adonis and Bathsheba - Love the horns on this one

Wally - My daughter said it could be done by The Dream (scratching my head)

Cosmic Day - Wasn't a big fan when first released but this is turning out to be in my favs

All My Dreams - Had this when it came out in the Dreams boot. Was the first one I listened to when released.

Sould Pschedulicide - ICE CREAM! Haha love that!

Forever in my Life - Almost forgot this one!
