WALKIN' IN GLORY is a ballz out mega-masterpiece...

INSANE that he just strolled into an LA recording studio in late 1986 and recorded this...

...and never released it????!!!!

I'm into God, but that doesn't mean I like any song about God. Walkin In Glory I like because I can now add it to my Black Album playlist. But I think because I hear too much of other songs like 2Nigs and one other in there (like Grace with the 777-9311 in the background) I don't think it rises to masterpiece level. When The Dawn of the Morning Comes kills Walking In Glory and Trust put together.

It's definitely up there for me...Perhaps it's one of the reasons why P decided against The Black Album @ the time since he knew he had this which IMO is actually even crazier than "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton" which is obviously the backing track for this.

The reason I put it in the final "Revolution" tracklist I posted earlier is it fits the concept of the tracks. "Crystal Ball" mentions Jesus, salvation & Hell. Then it goes into "A Place In Heaven". And "Walkin' In Glory" follows "Witness 4 The Prosecution (V1)" perfectly IMO. I imagined it would've been released in '89 if "Batman" didn't happen. Would've continued the "Lovesexy" theme in a way...You know, that's the fun thing about this stuff... Haven't had much of it since P transitioned.

It sounds like a gospel parody at times.

He recorded it the same day as more joke-y tracks too. I don't know, it doesn't sound to me like what a sincere Prince gospel track would sound like. It's not God. He's panting and doing is "owwwws" and talks about "freakin". I don't know how it could have fit on the Black Album unless it was supposed to be like a salvation redemption song for the rest. Some of the vocals make me wonder if he planned to submit it to someone like Patti.

Don't think it was created as TBA product as I consider the SOTT reviews as the moment that The Idea of TBA came to fruition. However I see a trend of records being compiled from material from approx 1,5 before.

Way too gospely for me, though the music is incredible. An instrumental would be fantastic. I don’t mind him having a hard-on for god, but in this track he’s poking me in the face with it a bit much for my liking.

I agree...this is one of this entire set's highlights....considering how many amazing tracks there are here, that says something.

I hear a parody...but then it seems to get sincere...so much effort into this.

I still have not received my cd set...is this Prince playing on everything?

Funny thing he did not consider it for Lovesexy in the end. It definitely fits the mood.

I love it! Then again I love black gospel music of that time and "Walkin' in glory" sounds a lot like that!! Did he have a gospel singer in mind when he wrote it?

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Good song. I probably would go back to church if the band was jammin' like this.

There are a lot of funky church groups out there, shouldn't be hard.

Private press church bands have long been sought after by funk and soul record collectors.

I was just kidding. My thoughts about church are better suited for the "Politics And Religion" board.......but back to "W.I.G", I like the tune a lot. cool

Because it was recorded the same day as Bob George... straight after finishing recording of Bob George actually. See PrinceVault and Per Nilsen's book.

It actually feels 'brighter and happier' than Lovesexy. Lovesexy seems much darker than I expect

I’m surprised he didn’t offer this to Mavis Staples. Or maybe he did and she didn’t want it.

I dont have my booklet yet, so for those who do can you post the lyrics if there are lyrics written by Prince?

Walking In Glory

Woke up this morning
- all around

Couldn't find my baby

She was no where to be found

Don't say that

-Lord had took her

took your baby

In the middle of the night

Took her up to heaven with -

Walking In Glory
Soul is saved

She's walking with the Lord
-

-damnation

This world is fading fast

(add on to the lyrics people)
