SOTT Vault Tracks Sequencing?

So, the Vault tracks are sequenced by date. Anyone want to attempt to sequence them so they sound more like a cohesive album? For example: I think "All My Dreams" should either begin or end this playlist of songs. How would you do it?

This is cohesive. It's sequential, and shows his progression from one song to the next. It's a historical document, not a proper concept album here.

Is it sequenced by recording date? Huh I was wondering whether that was possible and lo and behold its already done!

i cant even speak on the sequencing yet...because im so fuckin stuck on "7 Minutes MoQuake"... I had to wipe the dust off my tele and amp, and play some chicken grease along with it... horn solo and george benson-esque guitar work about 3 minutes in, got me fucked up from the strong ass funk...i dont need to hear shit else...im GONE

First thing I did was to make a playlist with all the songs from the various configs of Dream Factory that didn't make it onto SOTT, preserving the track sequences as much as possible. The ones in bold are from Crystal Ball 98 and Power Fantastic is from The Hits.

Visions
Dream Factory
Train
Wonderful Day
Big Tall Wall
And That Says What?
Teacher, Teacher
Colors
In A Large Room With No Light
Neveah Ni Ecalp A
Sexual Suicide
Crystal Ball

Power Fantastic
Last Heart
Witness 4 the Prosecution
Movie Star
A Place In Heaven
All My Dreams

Exactly. Which is why I am asking people how they would rearrange it to give it more of an ebb and flow.

I've been working on this for the last 24 hours. I didn't want to mess with the perfection that is SOTT, so wasn't really interested in recreating the original Dream Factory or Crystal Ball sequencing to listen to with all the overlap. I've ended up splitting a good chunk of these SDE vault tracks into 2 separate albums - 1 being my favorite of his solo recordings of the era (sort of like a companion piece to SOTT), also using a lot from the Crystal Ball box. The other being a Revolution backed album that was maybe what "Roadhouse Garden" could have been. I'm loving the flow of both of these so far:

Album 1

Dream Factory

La, La, La, He, He, Hee

Rebirth of the Flesh

Crucial

Sexual Suicide

Movie Star

The Ball

Big Tall Wall (Version 2)

Feel U Up

Make Your Mama Happy

Good Love

Joy in Repitition

Shockadelica

Last Heart

Train

Crystal Ball

Album 2

Visions

Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden

Wonderful Day

Witness 4 the Prosecution (Version 1)

Eggplant

Power Fantastic

Teacher, Teacher

4 the Tears in Your Eyes

A Place in Heaven (Lisa vocals)

In a Large Room With No Light

Colors

All My Dreams

[Encore]

And That Says What?

Soul Psychodelicide

I just put the rest into more of a "rarities" type playlist in this order I thought sounded pretty good together:

Album 3

The Cocoa Boys

When the Dawn of the Morning Comes

Crucial (Alt lyrics)

Big Tall Wall (Version 1)

Witness 4 the Prosecution (Version 2)

It Be's Like that Sometimes

Cosmic Day

Adonis & Bathsheba

It Ain't Over 'Til the Fat Lady Sings

Everybody Want What They Don't Got

Blanche

Wally

Walkin' In Glory

I saw a chart on one of the threads about how the Dream Factory/Crystal Ball/Camille was distilled into SOTT but can't remember which one.

The important thing is that the tracks flow into one another. That means 2 things. Vibe-wise, sonically they have to sound like they belong in the same collection. Also, how a song starts needs to fit how the last song ends. These vault collections do neither well.

However, that's not the point of the vault tracks. They're not meant to cohere into an album, or fit an artistic statement. It is what it is, a bunch of somewhat randomly compiled, range of good to great songs, put on the same disc.

Big Tall Wall version 1. Version 2 is from 1987 so couldn't have been on any Dream Factory configuration.

As for A Place In Heaven, both versions featured on at least one configuration, so just go with the one you prefer. I use the Prince vocal version.
