Preacher, Lecturer, Comedian: which of Prince's later personas was your favourite? feel free to add on to my list. preacher - obviously this is the prince that would freely moralise on sexual behaviour and would chastise and give you a dressing down if you werent living up to his lofty principles lecturer - the prince that seemed to take inspiration from gil scot heron (e.g. the war, etc) and had all the answers on history, religion, politics, race, social ills (also the prince that voiced doubts on democracy and supported states with one religion IIRC) comedian - the prince that wanted to show you 'hey, i have a sense of humour too yknow!' eg the little routine he built up around the rules on the musicology tour.

I really appreciate the comedian in Prince. I just rewatched the New Girl episode with him and it was great to see him smiling and having fun. |

[Edited 10/19/20 12:18pm] i cant answer that for him... but all you had to do is listen to hin speak and follow his career and the evolution of his lyrics and behavior...even the books he was reading that are still displayed at PP... "The Secret Teachings Of All Ages"...ive had that joint since 2005...and the influence of that book on him has always been obvious to me...the esoteric writings of Manley P. Hall isnt for everyone...and everyone that seeks and attains true wisdom isnt always a "lecturer", or willing to share their "pearls of wisdom" freely, openly or with just anyone... and most artists that are on that frequency, just put it in their art and let those who are kindred spirits acknowledge it, and let this rest have their own interpretations or even confusion. | |

I liked Prince the comedian, because the guy was funny, and sometimes with just a look or expression he gave about something. Also, I loved to see him smile, and not be so serious all the time, it made him appear more human, and not so much like some strange celeb that you just stared at, whenever or wherever he appeared. comedian. that new girl episode comes to mind. it seems like the older he got, the less weird he became, and the more we understood his quirks as time passed on and society changed. we began to see the humor and carefree nature in the way he lived his life. | |

i really wish prince had chilled with the preachier stuff as he got older. not to be arrogant, but i did not look to prince for guidance on big social issues, or religion, or politics. there are musicians who i did look to for thoughts on that stuff, but it wasnt prince. maybe thats just me, idk, and i appreciated his thoughts on god and spirituality (so i loved lovesexy, but saw it more just about his own journey and battles rather than trying to want to impress it on others), but he just got too didactic with it as he aged. maybe losing your child, losing a wife/marriage, etc is what did that, idk how id cope with that, but even so. i def respect prince, but he wasnt an intellectual figure in my eyes. he was important in other respects. and theres nothing wrong with that. |
