This is the song that made me fallin love with Prince, so I'm very pleased it's had an official release.

Another of what could be a Madhouse-outtake. I like it.

Never been a huge fan of tis song.

I though the hard-panned drums would get annoying, but the guitar in the opposing channel has so much rhythm, they balance out pretty well. This is a great song, one that I'm sure I'll continue revisiting.

"Like some kind of fag". I'm sure that line will give something for people to bitch about.

Soul Psychodelicide
I don't think I've ever bothered to listen to the full bootleg version (apparently running at almost an hour), so I wonder about this edited version.

I was really into it for the first 5 minutes, but then it became too repedative for my liking.

Forever In My Life (early vocal studio run-through)
This is the single I've been listening to the most in anticipation for the set.

I really love this version. How he could take such a beautiful song and turn it into something so dark and brooding is a testement to his genius. This wouldn't have works on the album, but as a standalone track, it's really brilliant.

Crucial (alternate lyrics)
So... This has the original lyrics, but later-added strings? Okay, Michael "no creative liberties" Howe.

And what is with those strings? They're in mono?

As far as the alternate lyrics are concerned, I much prefer the one that came later. I'll stick with my basic tracking version, pray for a better copy of the sax version and seldom listen to this Frankenstein mix.

The Cocoa Boys
I'm very pleased that the bootleg Basic Tracking version is in such good quality, because I think that'll remain my go-to version.

The little extra parts in this are nice, but the Dirty Diana crowed noise doesn't do it any favours in the slightest. I also kinda prefer Prince's impersonation of the horns, rather than the real thing - which does seem to be somewhat present in this mix as well (which I find odd...).

When The Dawn Of The Morning Comes
It's nice to finlly hear this one, but imagining it in a musical brings me visions of people running around frantically on stage to its rapid, churchy rhythm.

Witness 4 The Prosecution (version 2)
Another bootleg classic that's great to have in this quality.

It Be's Like That Sometimes
I like the lyrics, I think this is a definate grower.

The track appears to suffer from a few sound issues at 2:10, which can be easily fixed...

OK this is confirmed by Princevault, most likely thru Duane: Prince mixed some twelve-and-a-half minutes down to the song that was released on one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe set in September 2020.

I'm pretty sure he created this one adding instruments and lyrics to the drumming from the Flesh sessions (or one of those related tracks that came out in bootleg for a few years ago)...it sounds familiar but I can't tell which one...

You can still hear his horns scats under the horns. I just find the crowd noise annoying just like on U got to shake something.

we've all heard before....interesting to hear some different lyrics and delivery slightly different. I think I prefer this version to original.

Love the idea there could be a remastered, improved Adonis & Bathsheba. Truly great song, can't believe Susan Rogers didn't dig it. (she'd said in interview she thought it was the first time he'd lost knack of putting out brilliance)

Also, after hearing that along with Warden In The Prison Of Love and God Is Alive, I became convinced that Prince could do really soulful guitar solos in the 80s as well - having previously thought him only capable of it well into his 30's, the 1990's.

I didn't note down the timings, unfortunately, but I had the same feeling while listening to that track (i.e. hearing at least some effects, if not overdubs, that were not present in the complete rehearsal recording).

Always loved this one. This one I love because his vocals remind me of early Prince, yet Parade era Prince. I always hear this one as a back story of Christopher and Tricky lol love it

This could have been a Kiss B side. I actually prefer Wendy on opening-lead vocals. It works better in the call/response connection, have a woman sing those lyrics. But I prefer the other one.

I respect the stripped vibe of the released version. Like NC2U.
I also really enjoy this busier version of Forever In My Life. I glad this exists.
The album ending(like Mountains) always felt like there was an extended version.

9. Crucial (alternate lyrics)

This version feels like 1989 era song like Scandelous. I love the electric guitar riffs and solo.
For some reason I like the muted strings on this. I'm thinking it might have had a more cluttered sound if they were louder.


10. The Cocoa Boys

I've always liked this piece. Something about it reminds me of the 1982-1984 period.
I don't think I needed horns on this one. It's interesting how this one Crucial, WTDOTMC seem to foreshadow the vibe heard on the Batman sessions

I immediately heard TRUST. He should have gotten Juan Escovedo and Sheila E to spice up those percussions i'm hearing.
I never fancied hearing a more 'churchy' vibe for this one for some reason. It's fun.
I hear some Holly Rock near the second half too.

Great to have a sharper sounding version. This is one of those that when I first heard it, I was transported back to 1986.
