So, while we all wait impatiently for SOTT SDE, I thought we could pass the time by looking ahead to what next year will likely bring.

The generally feeling to me, is that they will have a success with SOTT SDE and they will want to continue in the same format - Even the large format box/booklet would be welcome from me - I even think Purple Rain SDE will be in their future plans. Parade makes sense to me, with hopefully something else as a side dish (Originals II would be great, but it could be something else First Avenue CD/DVD combo maybe, or would they save that for the PR SDE?)

I'd really like something more recent as well.

The rumor was that First Ave 83 (aka The Makings Of Rain) was going to get a DVD/CD release from Warner in the beginning of 2021 to accompany the Apple TV documentary on it but now people are saying that the kebab has been put on a physical release.

birthday show was shot on film, meaning a blu ray of it could yield stunning, absolutely breathtaking results if it was done with care. i'd take a gig in unprecedented quality, even if it's one i've seen a million times, over a low res and grainy presentation a la 1999's dvd, as fun as those are to watch.

But no doubt both want to see money coming in from these sets so I'm sure they will find a common ground.

"Parade" is low on my list of wanted SDEs (below "Around The World In A Day" and "Lovesexy"). I mean, don't get me wrong: I'll take any classic-era Prince special edition. I love Prince! It's just that "Parade" isn't one of my favorite overall albums.

HOWEVER... an SDE from this time period could be just as jam-packed as the upcoming SOTT reissue. Just based on the couple of proposed tracklists that the Orgers have put together, the "Parade" SDE has the potential to really knock our socks off, Vault-wise.

I do like your timeline though. 2024 would make a perfect 40th Anniversary Purple Rain, and I think at that time people (those who still buy albums) would be ready to buy PR again.

I'm all for a big-ass "Parade" SDE, if it's done correctly.

Parade is a pure masterpiece, and sonically quite unique from almost everything else that he's put out.

DM/Controversy/1999/PR/ATWIAD were all pretty much part of the same evolutionary track, most of which is the "purple" era. Parade is quite different.

The only "bad" thing about Parade SDE would be introducing tracks that might detract from that perfect album.

Yep your right. My mistake. As they have released SOTT though I assume that its going to be the definitive version so wont be re-released by SONY
