The Versace Experience - is it worth getting? I guess like many of us here, I'm a completist even though I don't have all the compilations. The Hits I, II and III and Ultimate are more than sufficient but is the Versace Experience considered an actual album? I heard that the sound quality is not exactly the best.

You can listen on spotify if you're brave.

I bought the CD last year.It’s a cool item to have,but I wouldn’t say that it’s essential.

- No. Not really tbh. That horrible kinda fake 'Versace' chant. Quite unPrincey in my humble opinion. Sorry guys. -

If you must get it, get it as cheap as possible. The music on it isn't that great, and it sounds like it was dubbed from a cassette. It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

a curio.
on spotify, it sounds like a copy someone copied from a copy from a copy.
does make you wonder what they were working with when they reissued it.

This is the problem. The mix is great fun and I would say a must - but the audio fidelity is atrocius. Not only do you have the tape hiss, but the sound is so muddy (especially contrasted with The Gold Experience).
The only time I've been so disappointed in terms of quality is the Aladdin DVD. [Edited 10/3/20 12:13pm]

I find it a lot of fun, TBH. And both the vinyl and CD must be very cheap to get now. I’m a bit of a completist of early-mid ‘90s Prince, though.

I picked up the cassette on Record Store Day a few years back. The only cassette player I own is at our vacation house so I brought it there. I played it once...it was fun...but then sort of forgot about it. Then we had friends up that summer and someone put it on and everyone went nuts over it and played it all weekend. I turned on a couple folkies to Prince music that weekend. Who’d thought?!? So I say worth it. [Edited 10/3/20 7:56am]

[Edited 10/3/20 4:26am] And now I feel like even more of a schmuck for paying £37 for the vinyl. It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

I love it. It's no masterpiece. It's a lot of fun. I bought the vinyl. It sounds great. No regrets due to source. Get it. One of these days you'll be glad you did.

I never understand these threads...that $10 isn't gonna break you. It's the price of a couple Starbucks drinks. Lol

I don't know where you live but when you live outside of the US as I do, you have to consider a lot of things when ordering online like shipping and import duty. That $10 actually doubles, maybe even triples, if you're buying from the Prince store which doesn't give you an inexpenive shipping option. It's just the expensive shipping option or the really expensive shipping option. And so yeah my question is more than valid.

Get it. 100%. Prince chose during his life to make it available for public consumption. It’s part of the story in a way that these half-assed Estate-curated embarrassments only wish they could be. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I don't think CDs wish much of anything.
And this mixtape was never made for sale. It was intended as a free thing for a small set of people. Don't buy it- you weren't there and that's not what Prince intended.

It was issued by Prince for public consumption. End of. . To to OP: true hardcore completist, seek out and pay for an original cassette. In practical terms though, get the Sony Cd release. . It’s an acceptable compromise. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

How many times do I need to repeat: acceptable compromise. . Prince knew full well that by giving the tapes to people that it would be heard by people outside of the “intended” audience. . Nuff said! What we know is that he intended that audience to hear it. Not for it to be sold, or he'd have sold it. So chuck this one in with the vault discs. Unintended to be sold, incomplete, and trash.

Didn’t say I knew his thought process, never have and never will. . But of course it is common sense that once a physical product is distributed to even one person, there is no way to control what happens to said product. . That is not at all a supposition of Prince’s thoughts on the matter. . It was complete and finished and in no way comparable to the posthumous vault material. Cool, then going by that logic there is no issue with releasing bootlegs that have already leaked via the SDEs because we can verify prince put them on cassettes and gave them out to people. Thanks for clarifying! 👍
