will there be a final album? and if there is, would anyone want to hear it? as in, an album of songs prince had been working on in 2016. or if not that, which might be a smarter idea considering the standard of songs prince was releasing in the 2010s, an album of a show from the last tour? it seems like the kind of release the estate, or most estates would want to do at some point.

Most estates do that type of release asap and feature your sentiments as a prominent aspect of its marketing.... and they're usually quite successful because of what they represent.
I find it really odd how everyone, both fans and record labels, just steamrolled back to '84 and it's like, eh, maybe they'll get around to it in 2058 but probably not.

It's funny you'd post this. Last night I dreamt a finished, final album was found and released. I wish I could remember the title dammit!! It was a very deep, somewhat dark, atmospheric record, something between ONA and Bowie's Blackstar. I really loved it, I wish I could hear it again. But it's buried in my brain now A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Prince would never have a blackstar type record lol (I mean I like that album too but it's a tad self aware of its status)
I'd settle for a final live album. Seems like that was a special tour (yet to see or hear a show from that tour myself) There is a chance the estate would compile highlights from sessions close to when he died which would have the benefit of prince not being the one compiling it, but who knows [Edited 9/1/20 16:09pm]

In fact, I reckon most serious artists would.

I'd love to hear a final Prince album, a final Revolution album, a final Vanity 6 album, a final Paisley Park Jill Jones album...
Yes. The answer is yes. The answer is always yes.

i bet it's real good. would be nice to get it sooner rather than later, break up the stream of 80s releases with something that could very much please casual and hardcore fans, as well as the music listening world at large... "his last studio material before his untimely passing" marketing tag can do wonders.

There is a "final" album. How many songs done? Who knows? If you visit Paisley Park the studio is still set up on that album's music. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I still don’t understand why Deliverance didn’t get a proper release after being pulled. That song would have made an excellent posthumous swan song.

Interesting Do you know more? I'm not quite sure but iirc the last 4 ongoing projects were a potential HnR3, MonoNeon's BITNB, some jazz fusion series of EPs project with the last live band and a second 3EG album? I don't believe anything was completed though. And of course there was the announced P&AM live album. a live album i think would probably be the best idea. its hard to know what the recorded stuff was like at this point, and i think interest would prob be more marginal. the live tour sounds like something that would fit well as a final release.

Can't it just be 'Art Official Age'? Why do you all have to make something out of -whatever- on Prince's behalf? hit n run 1 & 2 weren't his last albums, either "Whatever skin we're in

Like others said I think that if there was a workable amount of 2016-era tunes I would have assumed those would be among the first to make it to release just based on the amount of marketing hype there could have been with the final album thing [Edited 9/3/20 10:40am]

listening to some of the 2016 shows online, these should def be compiled and released i think. would be as close to something like joni mitchells both sides now album as prince will get. great to hear him cover songs like sly's stand. and just nice to hear all these older songs in new, sparser ways without a big band production behind him. it def deserves to get a proper release. im sure all the shows were recorded professionally.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah that's certainly the impression I got, not that I know anything more than anyone else on here, but it certainly seemed that as per usual P had his fingers in several musical pies at the time of his death, and hadn't necessarily got far enough in any one of them for them to be complete enough to be released. So while I'd imagine there's probably a fair bit of material from 2016 recorded, given it's likely from several different projects I'd imagine fitting it all onto one "final" album would probably be a challenge as it's probably quite stylistically diverse. I would love to hear some of this music Prince recorded near the end of his life (although in a way I think that would probably quite acutely bring back memories of the pain of his death), but I'm not really holding my breath, and I don't think it's going to be a priority for estate releases for a good while. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

It was some Jazz project. I'm sure Paisley Park would inform you specifically. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Oh yes there was that, too. He had quite a few things on the stove at the time!! Though knowing Prince, had he lived it's likely at least half of these projects would have been shelved at one point or another. Even if any projects were not finalized, surely there is a way of packaging the material so we as fans and the wider world can here it - I suppose they need to create a catch all album series that can round-up all the stuff that isn't attributed to a particular project? Maybe by year? 'PRINCE STUDIO SESSIONS 2016' etc?

But it's buried in my brain now Lol, I thought I was the only person this has happened to. I was listening to a movie soundtrack with various artist. The song I was listening to was D'angelo backed by The Roots. It was an up-tempo funky song that became a ballad in the middle and then resumed the up-tempo for the ending. A very harmonious background vocals. I was upset to discover the reason I can't recall the song is because I doesn't exist. Never has existed.

It's happened to me several times. Usually it's either some Prince song or a new Star Wars movie, and they're always awesome A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
