Thank you. The dude had feelings and a side too. People say "well, he wasn't God."...exactly. He wasn't the devil either. Gods have omnipresense, never get in over their heads, always know what is going on, control the world around them, and lack vulnerabilities or the frailty to be used or manipulated. Prince, seeing as he wasn't a God, maybe shouldn't be expected to act like one or have those particular qualities.

so what does ANY of your self-rghteousness have to do with "making love like its surgery"?... nothing... so keep it movin and save the sermon for sundays

Agreed. Prince is comparing her love making as very precise and accurate in terms of knowing how to satisfy him and make him climax. Similar to a successful surgical procedure. * If we go with the many accounts about Prince writing and recording songs based on what was happening in his life at that moment in time then this song is most likely about Kim Basinger. She had moved to MN, I believe in the Spring of '89, and they were hot and heavy through that Summer until the end of that year. Prince first recorded the track in the Summer-Fall of '89 according to princevault.com. * Interestingly, The Arms Of Orion was recorded January '89, so before Prince started a relationship with Kim Basinger.

???? So....what?? I was commenting on the meaning of the lyrics and who I think inspired the song, and why. I also mentioned TAOO, because it's interesting that it was recorded long before ILYIM. * And????

I really really hope this trend does not continue where everything is seen through the lens of speculation around his bedroom. The question was about the lyric not about who you think he wrote it about. We have a thread for that already with the podcasts.

Perhaps you need to review the OP's post: * "when we making love it's like surgery" Lol what kind of sex is this?
And who inspired the line? Kim basinger? Now thinking prince played doctors and nurses lol *
So, yeah.....the question also included who may have inspired the song...

Thanks for your ever so positive input. By the way, it WAS Sunday in Australia when Shannon and I posted. Your post is a perfect example of the toxicity that exists here. Carry on.

"toxicity" = a new catch-word for practitioners of victimization tactics... please toughen up and lighten up..its a cold dark world.. and no crimes against humanity have ever been committed in an online comment box. Some of us are gonna keep it 100, unapologetically truthful (if sometimes tactless), in-person, online or wherever.

Guys this was meant to be a light hearted thread. I always liked I love u in me but it was hearing it in the 2016 tour that made me see I had forgotten this line. I still think surgical sex sounds a bit funny but I guess it could be just very precise.

- Oh, I prefer Arms Of Orion. It's my guilty pleasure. Love the melody. Lyrics are cheesy. I know. - And, 'I Love U In Me' = a fine tune too. I mad a Batman album configuration with 'I Love U In Me' replacing 'Arms Of Orion', and it didn't work that well for me. But, I Added 'I Love U In Me' as the last track, and that works somhow better. Whatever... - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Right on funkbabyandthebabysitters!!! * I love these type of threads! If any thread topic should be kept light and fun, it's those that discuss Prince's lyrics such as these Folks need to lighten the heck up!! * Prince covered sex (lots of it!), love, religion, race, economics and more in his lyrics. ALL are fair game with which to dissect, discuss, and have fun. *

Always thought it's a great line. Like all good poetry it carries a paradox. "Surgery" evokes flesh and blood in a way that isn't sexual -and carries images that are disturbing to most people- yet flesh and blood are also traditionally part of sexual imagery. And of course there's the explicit meaning which is what TheEnglishGent says. Cool line A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I must agree, and God knows I fought these weekly "Prince is over and done" and other BS threads back when he was alive. Thing is, constructive criticism is one thing, but the whining was usually dull and irrelevant (like, you'd really wonder if these people ever liked P's music in the first place - I mean, c'mon: "Prince needs to take drums lessons"? I often quote this one because it was among the dumbest and most dishonest thing I've read here, bashing for the sake of bashing, but there were many others). . More shocking is how insensitive people can get sometimes. One could indeed assume that Prince and his associates would occasionally come here, it is after all the #1 Prince community on the whole Internet. Yet, Prince and everyone he ever worked with got trashed year after year (I don't think many Prince bandmates or associates were spared insults and defamation), as if the people who wrote all this BS about people they've never even met (and that includes Prince) didn't care a bit how these people would feel being trashed publicly like that. Just imagine, you're going on a message board about whatever profession is yours, and you get insulted by people you don't even know. Well, I guess it happens on Yelp and all but regardless, it's a pity because few Prince associates ever came here to interact with the community, and the few who did, didn't for long. And what would you expect when you see the amount of idiotic things and disrepect on display here? . This place could have been a great forum for the fans to interact with P's camp. Instead, it became a circus. The craziest part about this is, I never understood why dozens and dozens of people who clearly were not fans anymore would keep coming on this site and trash Prince, as if he'd done something really bad to them personally, as if they couldn't just move on and, IDK, listen to other artists? . Now there are also many nice and informative people here, and we often end-up having fascinating discussions. But so much BS could have been avoided. . Oh, and BTW, there should be a rule banning these "make Emancipation a single CD" threads, because one has been popping up about every month for the last 20 years (that's a lot of threads!), and it's, well, boring to death.
