"We're doin' the show right? Did I say we'd do the show once today?" - Nudity Rehearsal 1990

So, do y'all remember the Paisley Park rehearsal boot (I think it was Nudity but I don't remember off hand) where Prince was asking what town they should call out? Fink said, "Floggerdam," then someone suggested Los Angeles. Prince dismissed the Philadelphia suggestion, saying "I hate Philly. They won't even see the fumes of this show." Then he said, "we're doing the show right? Did I say we'd do the show once today? PSYCHE! Here we go!" Rosie laughs, and Prince says, "not funny, Rosie." He was very playful that day. I think it may have also been the rehearsal where the kickdrum in the drum machine missed one little beat. I never noticed it but Prince did and aborted the opening medley, asking what was wrong w/ the drum machine. He told Michael that he should lightly tap his kick to fill in just in case.

The video of that show is on YouTube. I guess there were three rehearsals from (possibly) the end of March and two into mid-April. One of these is the above mentioned boot.

I was just surprised to see the actual video of this thing I've heard for ages. It was a full circle moment as a Prince fan - just to see a visual of something I've only heard in audio for two decades at least.

I had a similar moment right after Prince died. I had long listened to Hallowed B Thy Name, which was an aftershow boot from Belgium. I happened across the actual video in April 2016. It blew me away because I never knew a video existed or was circulating.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It starts with "The Future." And Rosie isn't in the Lovesexy show.

Yes, it's from the old Thunderball boot "Nudity," as you already stated. The date of this rehearsal is 21st April '90.
It's a pity the other rehearsal on this boot suffers from quality problems.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

@TrivialPursuit

A minor thing. Re the thread title. Just to remind you that it is a rehearsal for the Nude tour, not Nudity.

I'm well aware. I put Nudity on purpose because that was the boot name.

I came across the rehearsals on YT recently. I've had the boots for years but barely listened to them.
.
The first thing that struck me watching was him doing the full-on splits on Housequake. Talk about train like you play
.
And how much time they put into Sex but never ended up playing it on the tour. Shame as it sounded good to me.
.
I had the exact same experience with that Belgian aftershow from 95. Listened to the boot many times but had no idea the video was in circulation. Cool to see

I wasn't a huge fan of the Nude Tour playlist. It felt disjointed, no real focus for anything. But I did listen to a lot of that Nudity CD if memory serves.

And I should correct myself. The rehearsal where he stopped during "1999" because of the drum machine missing a kick beat was another day, possibly the day before. (The dates are unclear on that rehearsal.) But the one w/ the jokes jokes jokes was April 21, 1990, as noted.

I also noticed watching a Nude Tokyo show tonight that at the end of Bambi, he played a line from "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" before ending the song. Also, Tony MFing M. often rapped "The Flow" during "The Future," which seems forced on all levels. You can see where there's overlap of eras and material there. I suppose that much is interesting about the playlist.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Do you mean the Gold aftershow? No, it's a half decent audience recording

I guess I'll pass on that one. Already every time I download an audience recording I feel guilty like dude, you'll never listen to it more than once and you won't even enjoy that one time lol

In that case, it's not an audience recording, but an N-th generation copy of the original tape, so the sound is pretty good (it's still better on the many bootlegs of that rehearsal), but I can't see myself watching the whole rehearsal (blobs/shadows moving/dancing on stage are not my cup of tea).

Ah ok I'm confused we were talking about the aftershow video with Dodger.
I never saw the rehearsal either though but that I'd be more interested in. I'll have to look it up on YT.
We don't have visuals for the one where P and Miko go at each other, do we? lol

Yes!

You don't see much. Miko walks away and P stomps after him. The audio isn't great for that part.

.

As olb says the footage is quite grainy, one camera quite far back. But the sound is decent. Interesting and worth a little look on YT. You hear how great Rosie is. Covering for P on some songs before he arrives
