Why no 2nd percussionist?

As beat-oriented as Prince's music is, I have always been curious as to why he never used a 2nd percussionist live. You hear how multitracked and layered the drum parts are on record, an extra person filling the sound in live could have worked well. And could have also handled the drum machine & samples, freeing the drummer up to do his thing.

Until I find the righteous one...

Sometimes Kirky J would jump on percussion while Michael B was on drums

Because a single percussionist does the trick. And less variables to manage. And cheaper. He did have percussionists guest from time to time - obviously Sheila being the most notable. But I don't think it often added to his live arrangements save for whatever that jangly, jammy vibe was on the PR tour.

Bobby Z played drums along with linn/drum programming

Sheila E played percussion along with linn/drum programming

Sheila E's (1984-1986) band had drums, percussions, timbales 3 musicians?
