Prince

Look at us, individual residues of what is left of Prince, scorched and scarred by his flame. We are now ‘Prince’, all that’s left of him are our memories. We are all there is to make the existence of Prince Rogers Nelson an ongoing reality and concern. But we’re tearing ourselves apart like Dr Manhattan when he entered the proton reactor. And Dr Manhattan is the right analogy because - just how powerful would we be if we came together? The Prince community is almost like a microcosm of a ‘real’ society, all sex, colour and creeds - what other artist has created such a community? Let’s set an example. Think of the Kanye fans, people.

If it's "almost a microcosm of 'real' society" as you put it what "real" society with the diverse entities you listed is actually united and wholly harmonious? I liked the fractured approaches here, it's all over the place like my favorite Prince albums.

??? on the Kanye comment at the end, though... Very random.

Unfortunately, Prince fans have been forced to follow a figure that's now from the past. This is a hard pill to swallow because it means nothing new or current will ever be released by Prince again. We can't talk about him in the present tense, or ask what he's up to (I mean, can you imagine how many 'lockdown' songs he would have completed in these last few months, when he was by himself in his studio). We can't imagine this now. So it's quite right that there is some underlying bitterness flying around. Hopefully it will all calm down in a few years when the realization has fully sunk in; and we can more easily reconcile with the fact that we're enjoying music from the past.

Is it even worth me saying you missed my point? Would I be wasting my time? The guy's dead. Nothing new WILL EVER come out. Clear enough, sarge?

To be fair, I've been meeting fans in France since 1993 and an Orger since 2001 and the community has always be extremely divided. People dissing each other, trust issues, polarized opinions regarding P's music and career moves. When I read those people saying the atmosphere on the Org has become terrible I wonder what golden age they're talking about? I mean TBH I kind of remember that in the 2000's the arguments were somewhat less violent, there was more fun between memebers and that it became a little less friendly in the 2010's, but i don't even know if it's real or just me being nostalgic. Ragardless, tensions between users and mods were very strong already, and the divide between Prince haters and Prince supporters was always there as well. I can't remember a time when I read more positive things about P than negative here, his fans were at war with him for as far as I can remember. Maybe if the Org had existed in 82-87? As for the French fans I met in the 90's, all I'll say is that the atmosphere was very "cold" between them, to say the least, which is why I never bothered to connect with the hardcore circle in Paris.

Now IDK how it is with fans of other artists, but the purple fandom has never been a place with much "love4oneanother". I don't see that changing overnight. But your good vibes are always welcome of course hug

It's ABOUT the same here as when I was here in the 90s but I fled and forgot about this place for quite awhile.

Yeah, it's the same...except for those trying to impress that Prince guy who occasionally lurked under an alias.

But now, we can stop with the impressing. Let's love the music and the legacy. Is it all "past music"? Sure, but it's the best damned music you'll ever receive from anyone else.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

When you say "Let´s set an example.", what exactly do you mean?

I wish I could be as positive as you feel about this but after decades of being a Prince fan and a member of this community I´m a tad pessimistic, or rather, realistic. But I agree that the fans, especially the oldschool fans, do matter and I think as time passes, we´re realizing what we experienced, what we were a part of and , as corny as it may sound, we witnessed an important part of pop music history, or to some extent were a part of it. Real soon we´ll all be really old guys and tell stories, anecdotes from the past and keep the legend and legacy alive....I guess.

But I agree with you that we should appreciate each other a bit more as far as this shared experience and the memories and legacy are concerned...especially in this day and age.

I absolutely agree.

But it is what it is.

I posted about what I think that makes people start bashing etc.

It's very unadult to be honest.

Somehow it is the sickning of the interpretation of freedom of speech.

Whatever.

i will remain positive, it's in my nature.

And i'll try to react less, or at least not get carried away anymore.

Don't feel like reactng too much anymore too.

Lately most threads here are filled with sour and bitterness, and for what reason.

Some serious peaceful moderation is needed.

Y'all crazy. Uniting 5,000 hard core fans of Prince will be powerful in what way? The world isn't the internet and the internet certainly isn't the world. There's real shit to worry about out there.
