Differences in why males and females dig Prince This may come off as degrading to some female fans, or generalising, which is not the intention of this thread, but I have noticed a difference between male and female fans in why they dig Prince.
I have noticed that quite a few females mainly seem to be attracted to Prince's performance, voice, and appearance. The quality of the songs sometimes doesn't seem to matter all that much. This is often expressed with admirance of his "sexy voice", a voice that almost no other male singer can mimic... and in his "mystique" act and appearance. Romantic or sexually arousing lyrics can play a part too. Still... Sometimes it seems that as long as he is "sexy" and "mystique" he is the greatest to some women.... Now mind you, I am not saying that all female fans think like that, but... yet, for the male fans it seems to be quite a different matter why they dig Prince. First of all, just the music itself, instead of the music AND the man, seems to play a more important part. A truly funky Prince, or a Prince that truly rocks is often very much appreciated by male fans, just because it is truly funky or truly rocks. Also, the quality of songs seems to be criticsed sooner by males than by females. This may have to do with the fact that males see through the sexy and mystique appearance sooner than some women. Quite naturally, for most males the "sexy" voice isn't a reason for them to like Prince. However, Prince's vocal capbailities are appreciated just the same, just because he is very good at it. It is probably the same with his guitar playing. They may not think he is "sexy" when he plays guitar, but they may think he is "cool" by the way he plays and... when he is in a creative mood, the impressive solo's he can perform. So...I wonder, is it me, or has somebody else noticed these differences as well? How can we assess what the true differences between male and female fans are when surely not all male and female fans are the same, but at the same time there seems to be a clear difference? EDIT: Something which I did not mention before...: Prince has also written many "spiritual" songs. Albeit not so many in the beginning, later more. While the appeal of those songs would be mainly for the lyrical content, many of those seem to be held as his best musically as well... Yet I haven't seen any female, nor male, on this thread say that they like Prince because of his spiritual songs.... [This message was edited Tue Apr 29 5:30:50 PDT 2003 by huggy]

Firstly I was grabbed by the quality of the music and I think that his "couldn't give a damn what others think of me" attitude was almost as intriguing to me as the music.
I'm male and I think Prince is sexy

Surely male, or female we all appreciate his musical genius first and foremost.
I'm male and he's the only guy in heels I want 2 do.

i recently touched
on a similar topic i asked: is it the man the music or the mystery i know that prince appeals 2 males and females so i didn't breakdown the question according 2 gender although his musical talents cannot be denied, his mystique and magnetism are monumental no one can match prince's sexycool vibe

Just to reply to your topic...
Sometimes I am attracted to the person first, then the music. Sometimes the music gets my attention, then the artist. But for me to stay with the artist, eventually I must like both the man and his music. I like selections by many many artist but I am "into" only about four. Then there are only two who keep the music coming so I get impatient waiting on those other two. So because I like Prince, the man...the person, not the sex-object and because I love his art, his passion for his art and his delivery, then I am here, waiting for his next move. I also like the way he is not afraid to be himself, and not afraid to let us "see" who he is. So...how's everybody doing?

At this point, after having gone through such a rollercoaster ride with Prince over the years, one thing we all do have in common--male and female--to have stuck it out this long is that we all carazay.

I got into P because I not only found him sexy but I also thought his androgynous look (plus extremely hetero music) was kind of a contradiction or atleast different from normal pop shit. And when I heard the music (beyond just the hits) and what P was capable of (Cross the Line, Extra Lovable) I was blown away! And this all with me being MALE. Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

But that is an interesting play of words: "sexycool vibe" For the ladies he is mainly sexy, and then cool, but for the fellas he is first mainly cool, and then perhabs also a bit sexy...looking at the posts above you...lol

Not exactly what you're describing, but fanboyish nonsense nonetheless. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Who talked about "looks"?? I thought Prince wasn't exactly seen by most women as the most handsome man in looks, but rather a very "sensual, crazy, mystique, cool and sexy man", regardless of his looks... ... Or am I completely off track now? lolStarmist7 said: It all boils down the the MUSIC, forget the looks.

And I think the lyrics of "the Greatest romance" seems to imply some sexuality ... Perhabs it would be inetresting for you to hear how his songwriting in this respect changed during the 80's and later during the 90's. For example the song "Temptation" already deals with his beliefs that he is a sinner for having such a "libido". God plays a part in it as well...or so it seems...
