Kansas song that fits Prince Sometimes late at night, I get roaming through the vast array of music available to us now. My tastes tend to be in the Rock, Funk, and Blues wheelhouse. The other night I listened to the song "Portrait (he knew)"by the band Kansas. It reminds me so much of P,and how he conducted himself,it really struck me. So, give it a listen if you don't know it, tell me your reaction.... Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

I don´t hear any resemblance to any Prince song melodically but the song made me think of Raspberry Beret, Take Me With U and a bit of Fury...the way he sings. Nice song. Never heard of that band before. Good music to listen to while on the road, I guess. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yeah, I see what you're talking about--I mean, it's generic "visionary" to a large degree, but throw in the cried when he died and the sense that it was too early--especially to a Prince-fan, I can see why it might strike you.
Is it bad that I don't think I've ever heard any Kansas besides Dust in the Wind and Wayward Son? I mean, I've heard those two songs more than enough, probably, but this was more interesting than I'd expected it to be based on those.

No Kool, what I meant was the words to the song made me think of Prince. Him being some kind of musical visionary and all that. Yeah, Kansas music is like nothing else. For one thing, you would need an electric rock violinist to make those sounds. They have a new album out, but I have not yet had the time to listen to it. For me, I need a quiet evening where I can listen to an album in it's entirerity to make any kind of judgement on it. Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

I could see Prince covering "Dust in the Wind" with a falsetto - maybe on the piano.
