Gotta Shake This Feeling (early Purple Rain) Does anyone know anything about this rehearsal verison of Purple Rain? It's titled Gotta Shake This Feeling, a line he sings over and over. There isn't a lot of reference to the eventual lyrics of Purple Rain.
Does this date after Piano and A Microphone 1983? Or is it earlier?

This is from late June 1984, or early July 1984, and is from the soundboard to one of the First Ave Birthday Show rehearsals at the Warehouse. It is not known whether these lyrics were ever used in an earlier incarnation of 'Purple Rain', or whether they were mostly improvised to give the Revolution an instrumental workout.

There is even a line from 'Another Lonely Christmas' as well, so I think it was just a warmup improv of Purple Rain for the rehearsal. By this point the real Purple Rain was pretty much all set and ready, as seen in the '83 First Avenue show. It is possible that these could be early lyrics of Purple Rain, I don't recall him ever using them in later songs.

As far as I recall, it´s just adlibs and not a proper song. We´ve had various threads about this topic back in the day when the org was frequented by more people, so using the search function might give you more results than this thread. I know I created at least one thread about this song many, many years ago. Love those 1984 rehearsals....I could listen to them for days and wish they´d release some of them one day.

We also know these match the lyrics Stevie Nicks mentioned in her story about being given an early incarnation of Purple Rain as a demo she says he offered her.
