perhabs another difference is that Prince always used to be somewhat religious, or "spiritual"... but that he turned to a more exclusive faith, which is still seen as less than a religion by many, and does not seem to mix well with his past beliefs.

But Dillon was more than anti-establishment. His being born again was seen by many of his fans as betrayal.

I see your point though. One of the things that attracted me to Prince in the first place was his love for God and the way he expressed it. It wasn't pigeonholed by the exclusive faith you mentioned.

I think he was more right on then than he is now, but that's just me. He expressed his love for God in his way. Now he's learning how God wants to be worshipped. I hope eventually he will get his own voice back and find a way to worship God the way He wants to be worshipped in a way that is uniquely Prince.

Writing of God correctly edit.

We're on the same page. I remember when I rediscovered Lovesexy a few years ago and I tell you, I felt the presence of God more on Anna Stesia than anything I heard off of The Rainbow Children. Prince wasn't trying to force God down my throat, it was just a part of his life and music was just a way for him to express that. There wasn't any talk about Banished Ones and Wise Ones. It's stuff like this that make me mourn the "old Prince" but I'll still stick with him.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I beg to differ... once he starts "preaching" on stage he seems to be a completely different person than the performer of the music, and to me doesn't sound smooth anymore. It wasn't that way during Purple rain or Lovesexy and it still wasn't with TRC. Instead he sounds pretty weird and forcefull... to me at least.

I'm talking about the name "Revvvnnn'Nelson" vs. the name "Reverend Prince"... smile
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Going to be?? Where have u been the past 3 years, the musical genius we all love has turned into a big babbling bumbling bible boobie. Still TRC is wonderful music and like everything, you just gotta wait til this phase passes.. (like a bad steak)

I don't know about "Reverend".. after the name change back to Prince, the few people in the world left that remember the 80s hitmaster would never take him seriously again.

I guess I can't wear the same scantly clad dress to Prince's church as I do to his concerts. Darn-it, but he told me, "put on something that another wouldn't dare".

I just told someone this the other day. We were walking pass a Kingdom Hall and I mentioned the same thing. He laughed and said "Who's going to take Prince seriously as a Reverend?"
The thing is his way of spreading "the word", may just be through the music and not behind a podium. Maybe Prince feels compelled to preach to those who are willing to hear it, grant you there are many, great many that don't. I don't mind the religious references and talk of the bible/GOD because there's so much foolishness disguised as music and entertainment that it is a breath of fresh air to hear real music and listen to a real musician, no matter how "washed up" one may think Prince is, he's still great at what he does. I don't want to hear non-talented, mind-numbing, pure 270% garbage about sex, rape, drugs, killing; People in and out of prison like it's a grocery store! This country, this world celebrate degradation like a holiday, we started worshipping The Godfather, Scarface, New Jack City , John Gotti and other gangster/mobster movies/figures as heros. The worst that a person can do/have done the bigger spotlight they get. So yes, to listen to Prince preach about GOD is no crime, but a comfort from what's out there because he has the talent to back it up whether one agrees with it or not. You can just tune out the message and enjoy the music.

i wanna respond to almost every one of these posts, b/c y'all are free-thinking individuals and DAMN that's a breath of fresh air!!

if some of you are members of the club, try going into the chat room and question the moderators and the sheep. don't be rude (i learned my lesson, teehee) and don't use curse words so they really can't kick you out. last night there were some great people on there, but the three or four most vocal people were spouting "scriptures" left and right and as i told them, that makes me want to puke.

oh, and someone on there (i won't say his user name, b/c...well i don't know why) actually made a "joke" about "gay men spreading aids", which of course left me fairly livid, so i wouldn't let up on him for the next 1/2 hour or so. the funny thing is that the moderator had no problem with what he said at all...but warned me once or twice not to "attack" this guy.

anyway. i'm sure y'all have much better things to do than sit in the npgmc chat room, shit. be proud of yourselves, because it's much harder to be an individual than it is to be a sheep.

I wish L graham would have never gotten into Prince's ear. Just as he [prince]once said on Larry King live he was only interested in Micheal Jordon for the hoops he shot and not his personal life. Well, I am only interested in his musical genius.[i go 2 church on sundaes]-If by chance U read this board man will u plzzz!!
shut up hollywood with another COMMERCIAL MasterPiece just to show them U Can. Then I can shut up my hater friends who swear u no longer have IT.-Dig The Light...

Ok, Jordan was a basketball player. His personal life shouldn't have had anything to do with his ability play a game.

Prince, however, is a songwriter. His personal life is gonna be reflected in his songs. So trying to divorce one thing from the other is dang near imposible. I suppose he could write "COMMERCIAL" songs that have little to do with his life, but how interesting would that be. Prince took a shot at writing for the radio with Rave and that album was lame.

Many would argue that he wrote very personal songs for rave.

Prince can be whoever he wants to be. Madonna gets away with it, so can Prince. So, is this to mean that some of you call ME bullshit because of the Creator that I worship? Many of you don't eeeven know me, so I urge you to know a man or woman before you start throwing claims out there like you can judge a person by thier spiritual beliefs. It is not a human beings right to judge these situations. I don't think that Prince's "religion" is hindering him in any way- in fact, his music has gradually become better in the last 5 years- The Rainbow Children was, IMO, the best album since Emancipation, and is better than Emancipation, so actually, the best album since "Gold".

Respect the man and simma down!

Peace,

Essence

If he became full time preacher how many of you would visit the Kingdom Hall to hear him talk/sing? Hell, I bet many fans have already converted after following his version of "The Truth".

I don't personally loathe JWs anymore than any other sect of Christianity and don't dig the special abuse they come in for. Prince has always been essentially conservative and he's just came full circle back to his natural roots.

This new overwhelming passion will obviously remain the core subject matter of his songwriting. Prince the JW is here to stay IMO...

I can see it coming in the near future. Prince is going to turn into preacher just like Little Richard and all those other musical artist who seem to have found God. Don't get me wrong, God is a beautiful part in one's life, but in Prince's case, don't force the JW influence through the music. It's slowly happening and its clouding Prince's ability to write good songs. I just hope I don't see him on public access with a bible in his hand, speaking in tongues and begging for money.

Sound off with your thoughts!!!

Little Rich is a PREACHER? lol This is new 2 me.
They did WHAT??!.... disbelief
