Ryan Seacrest recalls sharing eggplant soup and new music with Prince

Radio DJ and TV host Ryan Seacrest recalled his dinner with Prince on this morning's "Live with Kelly and Ryan" TV show.

Seacrest had been personally invited to the 3121 house in L.A. by the Purple One, and dined with him on each end of a long table, on eggplant soup.

After which, Prince inquired, "Would you like to go outside and hear some new music?" to which Seacrest replied, "Sure" and they both got into Prince's limo, pulling up in front driveway, only to go nowhere. For the next hour, Prince played the music through the car speaker system, telling Ryan he prefers to hear songs this way, as most people listen to music in their car.

"This is unfair" said a jealous, half-joking Kelly Ripa, "unfair that this happened to you, you got to have that experience and I did not" mentioning the closest she got to him, was the last row in the Philadelphia Spectrum after buying tickets from a scalper.

Especially since "Seacrest" is now an A-1 fake nice media prick who probably didn't even appreciate the experience, ugh. Prove me wrong.

Eggplant soup? Was it good? Bread, crackers or croutons? I want details. I took the conversation wasn't going anywhere.

I wonder if this played a role in Prince going on American Idol or letting them use his songs.

He'd have had a better time with Kelly Ripa though.

You can roast just about any vegetable with some oil, salt, & pepper, then puree it with chicken stock & herbs and make a soup. We do this with root vegetables in the winter. Carrots, potatoes, butternut and acorn squash, parsnips, onions.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He might have still been using chicken stock then, but it sounds like he moved on to vegetable stock.

Yeah, but bread, cracker or croutons? A little parmesan? 🥗? j/k. sort of I am nosy.

I guess business was done. A hour sitting in a limo just listening to music is a long time. Definitely private.

The female chef who cooked that specific meal reported that P brought the soup back and said "NO", because she'd used onions to make it vegetarian* and it turned out bitter Something else went wrong with the dessert. She didn't last long. She was buying take-out and bringing it in (a birthday cake, sandwiches for a tea party, etc).
It's online. Not hard to find.

*vegetarian, not vegan BUT he was eating salmon at that time. Pescatarian..

I think Prince did things like this just (driving to the end of the driveway, go nowhere, just to listen to his music) to get people talking. I think he knew very well that people already thought of him as peculiar, so he intentionally did things like this all the time, just to keep it going. biggrin

I read that recently. Curious. Maybe vegan wasn't working for him on some level. One can still be heavily vegetarian for majority of their diet still.

For me, I'd go for some homemade boule or marble rye croutons. Def some parm over the top. And frankly, I save my parm rinds in the freezer. I put them in soups and chilis while they cook. The rind adds flavor like a MFer. But def some fresh grated on top. I'd probably add some chopped rosemary, thyme, and oregano in the roasting process, too. Don't get me started. lol

I would remove all trace of eggplant. Add potatoes and cheese. Side of garlic toast.

People taking umbridge with the integration of eggplant in any recipe is so odd.. it's as sponge food and innocuous as a vegetable gets.

Ryan also stated that Prince told him, he likes to listen to the music in a car to see how it sounds to for the people playing it in their vehicle.

The car thing is common with many musicians--I blame it for the loudness wars honestly, they're mastering to cut through traffic.

Jack White even rigged a car with a way for his recording studio to radio broadcast his mixes live straight to his car there so he could live communicate to the desk what mixing moves to make as he listens to his car speakers for reference

Sounds good. Right now it's so hot the thought of soup is a bit much.

falloff , I actually added the "now" just to cover the brief moment he rocketed to stardom as the sensitive, in-touch with contestants host on a hit show, before he became a very rich "producer". Right time, right place. U literally could not pay me to watch him expound on himself now on morning TV.

So what does that say about Prince, who invited him?

It says Prince tried stuff out. Like inviting the public over for music and pancakes. Like all the random people he reached out to that you comb the internet obsessively finding stories about - and then post them here. Doubt if Prince was playing 3 tier, multidimensional hindsight chess with his own life after the fact like some kind of video parlor game, fun as it is.
