I just listened, it's not the ole man/pimpin voice on that one.

unless U mean "Mo' drawers (Mo' drawers)"
But I realized it felt like a scene out of Under the Cherry Moon, eveything about it has that energy

He does it in the "Lisa" practice tape that I think people are saying is circa 1982.

Anyone know of something earlier?

Guessing something he did with The Time demos might have it. There's also the skits on Vanity 6... "If a girl answers" is a different character but a similar voice.

Yeah I'm wondering if it's in the demos for The Walk or Cool...but yeah, it's more straight up funk and soul vocals... kinda interesting that The Time had the pimp zoot suit throwback aesthetic before he started doing the voice later on.

I wonder if there's anything before that "Lisa" tape.

I started listening, but in an hour I'm putting together a 1977-1981 playlist of released and unreleased stuff and some live stuff to see if he plays with that voice.

I get why people started calling it "Pimp Voice", but he's not pimpin' or an old man in "Vibrator" with the same voice, or Don't hang up. I don't really like the more traditional "Jamie Starr voice" tag either. "Morris Day voice" picked up steam for a while, but that's not right either. It was just his go to character voice.

So the voice done in The Times Chocolate song could be considerd is his Waiters voice? lol

On Vanity 6, if a girl answers, it's his womans voice.

As the person above me said I always considered it his Jamie Star voice

Call it what you want too

Yeah because Jamie Starr was more than that voice. And most of the Time songs have nothing to do with that voice, in most cases Morris Day is singing in his natural registers.

And Jamie Starr is also connected with the Vanity 6 music, which never even in outtakes uses that voice

I knew he was a waiter or something on another song.
I couldn't figured out which song it was,
But, near the end of Chocolate,

Garcon, Mr. Day's ready to order now
Waiter, I think I'll have the hot turkey dinner
What comes with that?
Mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce
Stuffin', green beans, chitins
That's good
Candy, sweet potatoes
That's good, that's enough
Black-eyed peas, grits
Hey, wait, wait, wait, hold on, hold wait
Cabbage and
Could you take this?
I can say anything I want to
Y'all can't fuck with me
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow

On the Chocolate maxi single there is a a capella version of the remix, though it still contains some of the music.
But when it comes to princes part it's just his voice with no Morris interacting.
You can hear it more clearly

In all , that a capella version kinda sucks lol

i could care less about what you think is "passive aggressive...if i said what i REALLY felt and thought about certain things here, it would get moderated out...so i filter it, and/or "lighten" it up to keep it funky, and relatively P.C. ...

When we first heard it we thought he was playing a gay man for some reason

But I believe it's supposed to be an insecure woman
