Pimp voice

First post but been coming here for a looooonnnggg time. Was just listening to Cold coffee and cocaine and was trying to figure out how many times Prince used his pimp voice? Obviously CC&C, Cloreen Baconskin & Chocolate but I can't remember any more...especially not beginning with the letter "c".

Any help greatly appreciated.

Irresistable Bitch.

Chocolate, and other Time songs. He does it in interludes on the Vanity record.

Cheers guys, think that must be it. Would have been good to get 9 or 10 tracks to create a Camille type album...maybe more lurking in the vault razz

I wonder how many of these Time demos have the Jaimie Starr (= Morris impersonation) voice.

Surprisingly, it made a bit of a lower-register late career appearance at the end of "The Gold Standard" (the "let me get in there...this is exciting, it's different" part). Not 100% the same as the 80s pimp voice, but somewhat of a callback to something you thought he'd never revisit.

Andre Cymone and i think even Susan Rogers has said the so called "PimpVoice" was them imitating how Prince's father talked.

Actually, if any of you have got "The Black Album" on vinyl and you play "Bob George" at 45 instead of 33, you will indeed, hear his "Jamie Starr" voice. Seriously.

I Wish U Heaven "part 3"/Take This Beat

Also, at the beginning of Irresistable Bitch (B-side version) it sounds like Prince (in Jamie Starr Voice) saying "Turn it up a little" followed immediately by Prince (in Prince voice) saying "turn it down a little" lol

Bitch this ain't the movies

Yes.
Prince turned Morris into a young version of his father.

Yeah, this and they've said the drunk old Jazz musicians that Prince's father hung around.

There's also that Rudy Ray Moore influence, or at least that tradition that he was emulating.

im well aware of Andre's brother being a pimp...but thats a different story, altogether...we were talking about the voice Prince uses on Cloreen Baconskin, and other songs...still not sure why its being called a 'pimp voice"...

Because that voice is associated with the pimp characters in Blackspoilation films.

Because The Time have said they took their style from throwback pimps.

Questlove even ask Jimmy Jam during his Prince marathon if that's the way pimps talked in MN.

I think it's that old drunk Jazz cat speak, but you asked the question.

Pretty obvious what you're baiting again though...

Er, that's not Prince.... I believe it's Johnny Blackshire?

He's talking about The Artist formerly known as Prince.

EDIT: Sorry, I mean Kip Blackshire!
