Can some of the experts with decent turntables, needles and all that please compare the vinyl speed of the songs to the speed on the CD? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Do you have the new cd? After hearing these songs well over numerous times over many years since their original release, i notice no speed difference. And to further stake my claim, i'm picky about that junk, too . Although, i would say, the songs on "Side 3" & "Side 4" are rather tightly tracked together.

It doesn't sound like one to me. However, that version is actually about 15 seconds shorter than the original 12" release. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

BTW: It could still be that the CD's are defective in some way. Can we compare the CD rips of people that do and do not hear the vinyl issue? I can do that this weekend if you send me the rips. After saturday I will have my own copy to verify. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I should clarify, my post above was talking about the version of America on the Minneapolis Funk compilation, not this new release. [Edited 7/16/20 10:15am] Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

Mine came today, from Amazon UK. I'm listening to the CD now. Yes, there's an odd rumble at the start and end of Pop Life, but it sounds like they have boosted all the levels, and it's tape noise from the master tape being amplified. It's not vinyl surface noise, that's for sure. It's not the hiss and wobble of a compact cassette either. Prince was never that bothered about audio artefacts anyway. The way that some other songs almost segue into another, does makes me wonder if this was to hide similar tape noise, at the end of one track or start of another. There is very little fade-out, and most tracks start with no gap of lead-in silence at all. It makes it all sound a bit frenetic and more exciting though. Having said all that, it sounds great. It's not cleaned-up at all. It's obviously taken from the professional source from 1985, but boosted really tastefully. Listen full-blast in your headphones to the silence during Prince's opening "sermon" on Let's Go Crazy... That's similar studio tape noise between his words. It was always there, and nobody complained over the last 36 years. It's under his voice at the start of 1999. It's actually nostalgic, and adds to this collection's authenticity. I'm now glad I paid nearly forty quid for two songs on CD - I expected the worst after reading reviews here and elsewhere. The audio quality is great - studio tape noise and all. I don't know what people expect sometimes. The multitracks for these extended versions and remixes may have been mislaid years ago, so this may be as clean as they're ever going to sound. And I don't know who at Warner Music in Japan (?) was in charge of twiddling the EQ knobs, but they've done a great job. It's unbelievably punchy sounding throughout. It sounds as dynamic as my original vinyl 12“s to me. I repeat, this is not a vinyl rip! I mean, the EQ job someone did evokes the punchiness of the original vinyl. I'm in 1985. I'm happy.

I acquired a copy That said, While Pop Life sounds ok, I do hear some issues with it. The beginning and the later half sounds a bit off or too loud? Skip to America and the sound is fine Also while I was listening to the compilation, Little Red Corvette came on. I thought why does it sound fast or different? When Princes vocals come in he sounds like a chipmunk (slighly exaggerated ) Then I compared it to the versions on "1999 Deluxe" & "Ultimate" and there is almost a 10 second difference. Paisley Park sound fine I think All those weird sound effects make it difficult to tell I did skep a few track near the end. Its ot a perfect combination, but I'll keep it as is my collection I will take my place, In the great below

Ah! I just happened to listen to the 7" edit of Girl from The Hits/The B-Sides CD, while wearing headphones just now. It played randomly on shuffle...

I'm really enjoying this compilation. I already had the vinyl but never opened it. For me, to have Pop Life (Extended) and Paisley Park (Remix) finally on CD is worth the price of the CD alone. And the packaging is nice. With all the talk about "vinyl rip" I was kind of worried how it would sound but I have to admit I'm pleaseantly surprised. It sounds great to me! I played it at a party the other night as background party music and a couple of friends not really into Prince liked it and even asked if I could burn them a copy. And it sounds great in the car for driving around!
