Pony Ride, Boy U Bad, Frustration, Twosday, Funny Love and Conversation Piece

Now that we have some insight from Michael Howe as to what was included and what is not included on the upcoming SIGN' O' THE TIMES box set, there are a few other songs from these sessions that will not be on the set. Perhaps these are the ones he was referring to that he felt did not fit the full scope of what the project should be. These are the songs that are not part of the set and to my knowledge have not leaked in any way during the years:

CONVERSATION PIECE - Recorded January 12th, 1986

FUNNY LOVE - Recorded March 11th, 1986

TWOSDAY - Recorded March 11th, 1986

FRUSTRATION - Recorded May 10th, 1986

BOY U BAD - Recorded May 11th, 1986

PONY RIDE - Recorded December 26th, 1986

There are other reccrdings that were skipped I know. Obviously Can't Stop This Feelin' I Got, Data Bank, We Can Funk and Girl 'O' My Dreams. My guess is some of those could be held for an ORIGINALS collection. The same could be said about his demos of YO MISTER, TELEPATHY, AND HOW and VIOLET BLUE.

I was the most disappointed in the fact that FRUSTRATION, BOY U BAD and PONY RIDE were missing from the set personally.

(SIDE NOTE: I don't understand how to post topics or replies on this forum where there are spaces between each line like it is when I type it. When I preview the message, it shows up all together with no spaces? How do you keep it spaced? I'm not forum technical)

There is a possibility that 2 of those songs are on this set (Hidden tracks) as it has been pointed out that disc 6 is short on time and there are 2 missing tracks from the numbers on Questloves leak

he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hate to be realistic, but i see zero reason why the set would contain any hidden tracks. if they wanted to include them, they would've included them so that the "62 unreleased tracks!" marketing line could've gone up to 63.

boy would i love to be proven wrong.

Conversation Piece sounds very much like a loose, studio doodle, not surprised it wasn’t released, assuming the other titles Oates like Twosday are the same. He mentioned The Flesh material too, and I’d think the stuff like Junk Music from The Flesh EP would make sense on a Parade SDE.

It's possible, but I really think they just made some executive decisions about what sort of story they're trying to tell and those songs don't fit it here. I'm not sure where they would fit and there's bound to be cases like this with every SDE in the future too. They won't be releasing 6 discs of unreleased stuff to get it all out in one fell swoop. There's at least some modicum of a plan and I'm betting these stragglers are filed in the TBD section rather than Never like Prince's original master of Hey Hannigan.

To me, titles like Pony Ride, Twosday and Conversation Piece, sound like the types of names he gave to instrumentals. They could be more Flesh / Madhouse stuff.

Pony Ride sounds like it should have lyrics if it got finished, but it's also recorded like two weeks after Le Grind which already has a a pony ride themed chorus.

Conversation Piece has leaked, it's an Instrumental. It could well have been saved for Parade along with Funny Love and Twosday.

Yeah, I'm surprised no one remembers it, it was on a BFTP IIRC. Great instrumental cut and clearly a Flesh afterthought. At worst it totally belongs on a Parade reissue, at best it belongs on a massive The Flesh boxset that would probably be the most critically acclaimed posthumous Prince release of all times nod

.

Now the otehr tracks I haven't heard, but I wouldn't worry about it. There simply is no way you're gonna stuff P's whole recording sessions for a whole year into 2 or 3 CD's. I didn't expect it with 1999 Deluxe and I didn't expect it for SOTT Deluxe either. As long as they release something I'm happy, as long as they don't butcher it with Frankenstein mixes. What they leave out = cool stuff left for future releases, I can live with it.

I didn't forget Conversation Piece, a fine little ditty. Sounds like that lengthy horn refrain from Junk Music in the middle set 2 a different beat. Flesh sessions is that business smile.

Twosday and Frustration sound like instrumentals to me, which I'm not, like, dying to hear based on Conversation Piece...

Pony Ride and Boy U Bad sound more like proper songs, they could've peppered in these few on the SOTT set. I'd rather have them than the Strange Relationship remix, for instance.
