Is Prince's Bassplaying on "Climax" good?

I just found this gem a few days ago. And this is for all you musical lovers. I find this Bass instrumental amazing. I love the whole arrangement, but I've never heard him play Bass this clear on many of his releases in the eighties. It's always buried somewhere in the mix. But never in the forefront. Or at least not this clear. I just wanted to highlight the track also. Stunning to my ears.

And was this good or amazing Bassplaying for the time period?

it sounds more like Andre or Mark playing, to be honest... theyre more heavy handed than Prince on bass and this sounds alot more like their style...i could be wrong tho

I love the bass playing on that one...It is very heavy handed as mentioned before..I think it's Brown Mark. Someone on YT made a video of this song (with the lake scene from "P.R") and it fit the vibe real well.

I don't even know how/if this officially untitled gem is listen on Princevault sad

.

I would assume Prince plays every instrument. It sounds like the kind of shit he'd record in his home studio every other day. Prince was usually very capable of imitating his bandmates' playing styles, since he usually could school them on the instrument. There's this hilarious story by Jimmy Jam when during a Time rehearsal Prince once took Terry Lewis' bass to show him what he wanted him to do and, despite the bass being Terry's lead instrument as opposed to P the multi-intrumentist, Prince, in Jimmy's words "attacked the instrument" and Terry was sort of staring at him like WTF did just happen? lol lol lol

Oh yeah people never talk about the possibility it's on there with another name.

I agree it sounds like Prince to me too. It definitely seems like a studio "jam", it's nothing organic, like the picking up instruments for a single take then moving around the room scenario we've read about him doing. The bass runs aren't that clean either, and with that much focus on bass, I doubt it's anyone but Prince. Maybe Fink is there playing along.

Yeah IDK it was known on boots as Climax or Jammin' Till The Dawn but apparently both titles were fake. Did it even have a title? IDK. But I wish it was recorded as an untitled instrumental.
