In a move that further reflects TikTok’s growing presence in music marketing and song discovery, the popular video app has landed a deal with the Prince estate to get all of the late artist’s catalog onto TikTok. Prince’s music is the latest and one of the most high-profile legacy holdouts to have their catalog on the service; music from several major legacy acts like Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones still isn’t available to use on the app.

As part of the announcement, TikTok has also partnered with the Prince estate to give users a tour of Paisley Park through TikTok’s “Sound-Off” livestream, featuring an unnamed special guest host who will join Paisley Park’s legacy preservationist Mitch Maguire. The Prince estate will also be offering a week of special programming over the next week on Prince’s TikTok page, the two groups said...

That's a great move.

I seriously don't get TikTok. Good to see Prince's music accesible to people though.

This is a move that is going to make Prince get lot of notice with today's youth. It will only take a song or two to go viral with one of those dances (or challenges) and it Prince's music will be off to the races, 2020.

I hope this works out for them. I'm already firmly in the Prince camp, so it doesn't matter that I don't do anything with tiktok. It's crucial for a sustained business model that they keep getting in new people. And if they keep putting out material like SOTT SDL, I'll be happy.

It's nice to see the estate do things that Prince would never do, but that do make sense, like spotify, youtube, etc. and now tik-tok. It shows that they realize they cannot keep everything afloat with live-shows, so they need alternate marketing channels.

The time limit on a video is one minute, and all the latest popular music is on there in a library to use as your background track for your own video. But you have to pick what section of a song you are going to use.

Tik Tok was originally lip syncing and dancing showcase videos... to existing tracks.

Tik Tok must be paying a license fee.

Tell that to Lil Nas X, who scored the longest-running number one hit of all time thanks to a viral TikTok meme. But you're right, this will be great for the estate and Prince's legacy in the long run. They can't rely on the aging Purple Army forever.

There was already a video of a kid dancing to "Housequake" that got a small bit of traction. Hopefully people will start to dig beyond the usual hits.

They say Prince's whole catalogue is on there but I only see 12 different "videos?"

Are all the rest of the songs on there?

Then I go to #Prince4ever and the first several videos that pop up are done to Prince songs but very soon after that they are just random kids doing mainly rap or hip-hop that have nothing to do with Prince, except they included the hashtag Prince4Ever.

Am I missing something?

You might have to make your own video and then choose which prince song you want in the background? Just guessing. I'm not in it.

I dunno. A few hours later and I've watched several video with Prince songs; some have a song on in the background while they eat yogurt; others basically do whatever they do, put on their clothes and whatnot while a Prince song in the background is just kind of being ignored...and it's so very sad.

Took me a while to figure that out but they’re all there. Search for Prince Wedding Feast (for example) and then click on sounds and it will come. They have C Note etc so it’s all there

Is there a way to actually screen only for Prince songs? When you go to "Prince" it comes up with everything with Prince in the title.

I just checked "Lovesexy" and didn't see anything come up?

Still trying to figure this out.

My two ten year olds just LOVE it.

They send me... four five vids a day ?

It's a world of importance and fun for them - but certainly not mine.
