Who Sold Their Crystal Ball (1998) Set In Expectation Of SOTT SD? So, yeah, I sold my set quite some time ago expecting the relevant tracks would show up on SOTT Super Deluxe...anyone else?
Seems to me Sony would be wise to reissue the 3 CD set this Christmas. Thoughts?

Obviously I do not know your personal circumstances, but I really do not understand why anyone would sell any item from their Prince collection unless they were hard up and needed some cash! Maybe I am a bit of a collector, but I wouldn't dream of parting with a single item. I have a few duplicates too (which is probably a bit silly) such as CDs still in shrink wrap (normally because a relative bought me something for Xmas without knowing I had it) so nothing rare but still they are part of my collection. There is no way I would part with my 1998 Crystal Ball set even if every single track was released on other remastered super deluxe editions. Why? Because the 1998 CB represented a specific release at a specific time and is part of Prince's history. But hey that's me. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Yeah I'm not a "collector" and I don't even own all of Prince's CDs- only what I actually like. There's only so much space for product.

I would venture a guess that you are the only one on this planet who did that.

Meh...it paid for this new SOTT SD five times order AND I'll be able to buy it when Sony releases it again.

I doubt it will ever get released. Its a bit of an odd duck in terms of content but I'm sure you have all the songs so no sweat.

I have two copies of Crystal Ball (in the jewel box and in the clear cylinder case) and never thought to sell either of them.

There's no doubt this will be reissued and soon. Sony knows they can sell enough to make it worthwhile since it's hard tof find at a reasonable price. My bet is before Xmas this year. It has the missing pieces of the SOTT SD box.

Me too. Why would anybody sell??? "I like to watch."

Did you only like the SOTT-era tracks on Crystal Ball?

I’d buy another one if I could find it reasonably priced. I think I have 3 Black Albums "I like to watch."

Could never part with mine. Someone was selling these a while ago, they had two boxes of them still in plastic. "Prince don't know how many hits he got"

For the most part no. I like the majority of the track but I don't like the hodgepodge arrangement of tracks. I burned my own arrangement CDs and sold the set for lots of $$$

Mine went for only about 50€ 10 years ago when I ripped all my CDs and sold everything. The things I sold back then, both CB normal and jewel, Rave In2 (the most expensive at 100€), ONA, ONA Live, all the side projects on CD... I could have made at least twice as much money in 2016. Not to mention I had 3 copies of ONA and gave away one to my best friend and another to a girlfriend who ended-up dumping me for another dude back in 2004 But hell, money don't matter 2night A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

The bulk of my CD collection minus the few collectors' items, 600+ albums, also went for 500€ to a wrecka stow (the best offer I got out of 3 wrecka stows). The guy told me if I'd sold him this only a few years earlier, before digital killed physical, he'd have given me twice as much money for the lot And it was only in 2010!! I guess today I'd only get 250€ for it, if not less A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

^What SquirrilMeat said. There is so much good stuff (including the whole Truth album) other than 1987 tracks. If the question was "do you plan to ditch your Irukandji boot of Crystal Ball?" you might get some more traction

Personally, I never sell anything that is already a part of my collection even if a potentially better release of the same material is coming out. In fact, When it comes to Prince or Michael Jackson I often buy older releases of things I already have multiple copies of if the price is right and something is substantially different about it from whatever other copies I already have in my collection. I also have no intention of selling off any of my old non remastered copies of any albums that have been getting this kind of deluxe treatment.
I do not own Crystal Ball sadly, but I have recently been able to fill in a lot of holes in my Prince collection lately through ebay whenever I see any particular album i'm looking for at a reasonable price. Even when new pressings of these albums do come out I will not regret having the original in my collection. I actually do regret that I sold my N.E.W.S. CD years ago as I wasn't really interested in it much at the time. [Edited 6/27/20 22:24pm]

Regretting not buying Rave In2 and One Nite Alone box the first time around. I got the reissues, but I certainly wish I'd gotten the originals. "I like to watch."

I sold a load of associated artists stuff in 1991 or 1992, but nothing else. I’ve got 3 copies of the 98 Crystal Ball. Jewel box, clear round case with printed labels from the old website, and a still sealed round case. Doubt I’d part with any of them.
Edited to add, I do regret selling those associated artist items. I can’t remember what they were (did include We Are The World LP), but many UK LP, 12” and 7” singles. I too have ripped pretty much my entire CD and vinyl collection (of all artists) but I still kept the physical products because, for me, it isn't just about the music but also the artwork, liner notes, booklet etc. Then again I still love buying paper books and having them on my shelf. I used to find some gems in the Haight Ashbury SF . At Recycled Records I once bought both Madhouse original cd's 8 & 16 for $6 apiece & a promotional Vinyl of 8 for $8 bucks. Never would dream of parting with these.

About 13 years ago I decided I no longer needed physical copies of my music since I had ripped them all anyways and didn’t use the CD’s, so I started selling off my Prince collection — Officials, singles, boots, etc, thinking I’d make a few hundred dollars. I made over $4k; boots I paid $50 for we’re selling for $200-300 each.
I bought a bulldog for $3k, who brought me more joy for twelve and a half years than owning any physical copy of a CD ever could. So anyone making of inferring snide comments about why anyone would ever sell a Prince CD should look internally at their own obsessiveness and value they place on things before questioning anyone who doesn’t have the same obsessiveness. No matter how you slice it, sharing a life is more valuable than a piece of plastic. [Edited 6/28/20 12:22pm] this message brought to you by logic.
