Any time someone claims to have written a book about "all that's left to know", most of us could pick it apart. Claiming to be an expert on everything? I'll pass.

"All That's Left To Know" is the naming convention for the Backbeat FAQ series - that's what they're called (see below). I see Prince FAQ as an opportunity to get an accesible but informative Prince book on the shelves in places like Barnes & Noble in a popular book series. I think there's something here for fans and for people just starting to discover Prince. The more of the latter, but better for all of us.

From wikipedia: "The band was formed in the early 1980s in Cardiff, Wales by Hyde, Smith and Alfie Thomas. It originally had only a graphic 'squiggle' for a name. In 1983, after recruiting John Warwicker and drummer Bryn Burrows (formerly of the Fabulous Poodles), they got a recording contract with CBS Records. As the label insisted on a pronounceable name, the band made the compromise that the squiggle was pronounced Freur."

So, there's that.

It also seems that the "FAQ" portion of the book gets put aside in favor of personal opinion. I mean, if you wanted to write a book from a fan's POV (and what book isn't, about Prince, really) then just make it that. But the FAQ seems like a stretch.

It's also odd, since it's an alleged FAQ, that you put Andre Cymone's stage name in quotes, rather than tell how Cymone came about. Maybe that's a question you didn't have an answer to. Curious.

You also note "Private Joy" as a misfire?!

I tend not to post, but I've been here with this name since 2017, was on with different names/e-mail addresses prior to that. And I go way back - spent a lot of time on alt.music.prince and other Usenet groups from the early 90s onward and have been popping in and out ever since.

The core narrative in Prince FAQ is the core Prince narrative. Around that core narrative, which is centered on the LPs, this book pulls together the different ways we can understand Prince - influences, proteges, band members, etc. - in some interesting ways. Are there facts that a hardcore fan won't already know? Probably not a ton. Are there some interesting ways in which the whole Prince story comes together in this book? I think so. I think it's for a hardcore fan like myself who gets all the books (you shouldn't write a book you wouldn't want to read), but, yes, it's also for people who are Prince curious, people who don't already understand what makes interesting and important and continually relevant.

And, yes, your website is in the Selected Bibliography.
