"Nobody Thought" Prince Memes

I've noticed the past couple days there have been several different memes with the same wording:

"Nobody thought the Revolution would start in Minneapolis...except Prince."

It seems they were orignally done to commemorate Prince's birthday.

Not really a fan of this and people appropriating Prince only for their specific agenda; if these folks were truly Prince fans I think they could find something else to celebrate about him besides the name of his band.

But "so be it said the Wise One."

Andre also used it in his birthday note to Prince.

It made me uncomfortable that they were making a Prince meme out of what's going on, but Prince is basically all most people know of the place.

Agreed on all counts. Yuck. The people's accounts I saw it in on probably couldn't name a Prince album besides Purple Rain. Nothing to do with Prince. In very poor taste...and for Andre to use it? He couldn't do better?

I know as I've lived in Southern California for many years now most people have no idea what/where Minneapolis is.

Or like in the Cream video, "Minneapolis? Is that a Greek restaurant?"

I don't know if it is that much of a thing, just a little meme using the most famous MI star and his band as a play on words for the current events in that city

The meme helps to punctuate the event that we are all learning a little bit more about the qualities of Prince's hometown. It is understandable for those uninitiated to life in the USA to feel uncomfortable in the viewing, but let us all please keep our eyes open.

Prince wanted a band where both blacks and whites (and apparently Jews) played together in harmony. He named it The Revolution on purpose.

The memes may not be "deep" but the message is there.
I think there are things in this world worth complaining about but not this. I loved that Andre caught onto it. He was part of it and knew.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

What agenda? It's just a play on current events and the name of one of Prince's bands. I don't get what there is to be upset about.

Oh, it legitamized it more for me seeing he used it. Prefered that over the meme form.

I think it's a clever pun/double entendre and I saw no issue with it. The deepness of it is that Prince believe what he said, as a black man, about race in society and the disconnect between goverment, people, and racial issues. I am convinced Prince was one that took "be the change you wish to see in the world" seriously and strived to do that thru his music. And since he lived in Minneapolis - there ya go. The Revolution starts there - the band and the social movement for change. I mean shit, "Race," "Balitmore" and "Sexuality" weren't recorded in fucking Boise or Salt Lake City.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Even Tamron Hall mentioned it on Watch What Happens Live tonight. She was asked about Prince and the situation in Minneapolis.

Something about this does not strike me in good way.

WTF does it mean "apparently Jews?"

Are Jews another species to you? Some alien creatures you're not quite sure about?

Jews can't be black or white?

You write "blacks and whites" so why not write "Christians and Jews?"

???

As an aside, and I'm not trying to instigate anything nefarious or move to P&R, but even Jews can have a debate on what is a Jew. Defined as an ethnicty or a religious affillaton? So the poster uses a loose representation of Jews uniting with Gentiles of light and dark complexions in Prince's band. In that regard I think it's an innocent statement but I could be wrong.

I think they just found it notable the same way people write books on Jews in punk rock, or just the way people bring up Lesbians in Prince's group without mentioning Heterosexuals. Prince was pretty overtly religious even in those days so there's no reason to have to qualify it by typing the word Christian.
