It took over a decade for the album to "click" for me, but once it did, I loved it. I still dislike Solo, but that aside, the album is great!

"Space" to me is one of Prince's best efforts when it comes to writing a chill and relaxed '90s R&B song. The chorus is very memorable, the sound of the drum machine with that groove, his synth pads and stabs, etc.

I think people jump on the goth wagon when describing the album as cold. It's certainly not.

"Wintery", "Chillax"? These adjectives sit better with your own preconceptions and intimations of the word "cold"?

Although I do goth hard and one of my biggest Prince past wishes was him one day going full dark.

Yes brilliant chill night vibe on that one.

because of the use of drums and horns and the jazzy vibe on some of the Come tracks, to me it always felt like it had much more in common with The Vault... Old Friends For Sale than to TGE.

.

Maybe I'm the only one, as I never heard them being mentioned together.

Ditto to all who love the Universal Love mix of Space, cuz I love it! Come the song is long but it's funky...so it's alright with me...also, the horns are so powerful...it's damn near overwhelming at loud volumes. Space is cool breezy. Pheromone, I heard for a long while on BET's video show that used it as the themesong instrumental; it's not bad. Papa is good in every way, musically and storytelling wise! Plus I love the psychedlic rock departure at the end! One of my favorite Prince songs. Loose, I always liked, more than Eye Wanna Melt with U, which also came during the 90's! Prince was not bad with house music, Loose proves that he didn't need a producer, he just did it himself.

I actually like Solo! It's weird, but that's part of the appeal. Good album from Mr. Nelson.

I wish the segues on the Gold Experience weren't there (or at least most of them.) It kills the flow for me. I like the Come album and how it is presented.

I brought this album when it came out...and took it back. My tastes were different in my early 20's (did not have a clue...pop only)

I revisited it again about 5 years ago and still could not make it to the end, the songs just seemed second rate!

I then listened last year...there was something I had not heard before

Then I read sci fi's article on "ultimate come" and after a couple of listens I was sold. The released album is not one I choose but the original versions are, this sits alongside SOTT as joint fave.

In fact its been discussed with eras but 86-88 and 93-95 are my most listened.

I just love this stuff, agree space is super. Probably my fave track on the album.

oh...and the biggest thing that fascinates me every time are when songs segue into each other....utter genius. If I could make music, I would do that.

I hated this album when it came out. He spoiled me with his 80's catalog of brilliant and memorable music. I thought; "He went from that to this crap?..Goodbye 'Come' and hello Me'shell Ngedecello and Trent Reznor.......Listened to it once and put it away...I revisited the album (sadly) after he passed and realized it's not as bad as I thought it was.

Come is a tricky album for me. Earlier in '94 I'd gotten a VHS of The Beautiful Experience TV special and put it on a cassette which I listened to all that Summer. By the time Come was released in August, Prince was already dropping hints about The Gold Experience. So there was an impression among a lot of us fans that he was saving the material he liked more for the next album, and Come was part of the contract fulfillment with WB. Don't get me wrong - I love most of the album, particularly Space, Pheremone, Papa, Race and Dark. But after listening to The Beautful Experience beforehand, I missed the fact that the uptempo version of Come wasn't released. And I was impatient for all of the other songs from the special to be released (Days of Wild in particular - but that would end up in more frustration since the studio version still hasn't been released.)

It also seemed a bit abitrary which songs ended up as "Prince" songs on Come and which ones as "TAFKAP" songs on The Gold Experience. In the TV special, all songs were credited to "TAFKAP", which kind of blurred the timeline of the name change.

For me the two albums are so connected that I usually listen to a playlist including tracks from both (plus the fantastic Ripopgodazippa and Days of Wild). I do think 1994 to 1995 was an amazing era and should have produced more legitimate hits. A lot of great music!

I was with you until.... ORIGINALS????

.

Even if I forgive that disgustingly wet brain fart, we then have to contend with 3121 somehow being included?!

.

But at least you didn't include the wretched COME in yoru top ten. Kudos!

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

My thoughts on this common trap of why are you here line of questioning tends to be the cancelling culture by people who don't agree with the way some or a group may feel about a subject; in this case the Come album. Well, first place this forum is for discourse. Secondly, some might think the Come album is meh and like most of all other Prince work. Doesn't mean they don't like Prince; or that they are not a "full" Prince fan. Just discourse.

"Originals", "Gold", "3121" don't belong on any top 10 best lists ever
πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„..
" Controversy" blows away "Gold"& "3121".
i don't see why " 3121" is liked so much on here.
the first single was so boring & the album is ok at best

It's ok of course if you don't like the album, but saying is awful, it's an over the top expression.
