I miss him.

I still haven't been able to listen to Way Back Home since he passed.

grief has turned to gratitue [for living his career in real time since c1983] gratitude has turned to celebration for the joy & memories through endless music, gigs, aftershows, merch [!] & being able to look him in the eye & telling him I love him [man to man!]

Celebrating him today and will be catching the grammy performance along with Empire finale.

I'm still trying to get that billboard magazine. He will never be 4rgotten by us.

Prince was the first person I thought of when I woke up this morning at 6:00am. I still have trouble accepting that I will never see him perform live again I had a hard time listening to his music for a long while, but I'm getting back into it like never before. He is the one and only. There will never be another like him. He is missed by so many each and every day. I feel so grateful that I'm one of the lucky ones who discovered his genius way back in the early 80's.

So much about that day is burned into my memory. I got a text from a DJ buddy of mine: "Prince died?!" and I thought it was just more of the news from the Moline incident, but reading the text, something hit me straight in the gut... Almost 4 years later I'd have the same feeling when my best friend texted me, "Did you hear about Kobe?" and I KNEW.

I searched online frantically and it didn't take long to see the confirmation and read the press release. I was about to go into back 2 back work meetings and had to take a moment to try to compose myself... went to a bathroom stall and threw water in my face but when I looked in the mirror my eyes were already red. I don't remember anything about those meetings except that people were grieving and in shock.

My girlfriend had gone to pick my Son up from school and then came by and swung to pick me up. I made it the short ride home before isolating myself for a while and I just broke down. ALL of it came rushing back to me. All the memories. How much he meant to that lonely kid in high school and how much he'd helped me to become the Man I am today.

Memories are weird. There's a hand creme I had applied right before I heard the news and every time I smell it now (my son wears it now)... I am instantly transported. It was a HOT day down here in Florida... but it felt so fucking cold. So many texts.. several calls I received. Even a couple of years down the line I ran into a former co-worker that I hadn't seen in over a decade. He pulls me aside and told me, "Man, when Prince died, I couldn't stop thinking about you... and I was hoping you were ok."

There were several instances like that.

I miss U, Man. Thanks for bringing so many of us together.

For a while I thought I had lost the joy of listening to his music, but I think now that it was all part of my grieving/healing process. I can now listen and feel joy again. I hope you can too Luv?

The odometer read "1999".

It really didn't hit me until i left work and saw it again while realizing the date.

Not sad, just hard to believe it has been four years!

Prince is in my Prays every night. I have never felt this way about someone I have never met… His music is the soundtrack 2 my life.
