A lot of fans on here don't get it. They won't accept that his 80's era is far superior to the rest of his career. Without 1979 to 1987, there wouldn't be a prince.org at all. Again, Prince had some good albums in the 1990's but not consistently so. His holy grail especially was from 1982 thru 1987. Most of his B-sides from that era were solid as well. But some fans on here fight the fact that his 80's period was his best. That era i mentioned from 79 to 87.. Prince rarely had a weak song tbat was awful or cringeworthy. In the 90's, there were a lot of half baked songs. Albums such as "chaos & disorder", "come", 3121, Musicology, Planet Earth had a ton of songs that were weak & felt like throw away albums. I haven't seen many on here that 'don't get it'. 99% agree the 80's was a peak (although I would say 80-88, not 79-87). They just like the other stuff as well.

'79? You really think '79 is contributing to the legacy? His most boring record ever? '79 makes the '90s sound like Purple Rain in comparison... at least those later missteps were flaming missteps instead of tepid safe-steps. It adds nothing to his legacy other than clearly revealing your own personal biases like those you seek to dimish. The zZzZZzzZz Experience.

For You is solid tho.

''It''

...is one hell of a magical twisted but weird warm song,

I do hope there is a extended version somewhere.

On my Prince play lists I put it up first, then next

''Do U Lie?''

''Something In The Water''

''Annie Christian''

''Dorothy Parker''

''Automatic''

''Dance On''

''Under The Cherry Moon''

''Temptation''

''Vicky Waiting''

''Time''

''One Nite Alone...''

A nice weird 12 track perso compilation. Try it.

-

''Slow Love'' is sugar and honey, longing and smells like spring.

But rarely listen to this little genius track, and made me do it right now.

-

''It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night''

is my convertible car ride track for long hot summer drives.

I have my 'car ride' list,

'reading in bed' list,

'laying stretched out on the carpet with headphones' list,

and 'couch/reading all linernotes' list.

etc.

Prince's catalogue never seems to bore you, ever.

...something else (from) SOTT:

Release the pristine sound version of (the live track)

''Strange Relationship'' (from the boot ''4 Those Of U On Valium''),

thé 13:28 version.

Put thàt on the SOTT deluxe version.

...and i'll shut up and die for ever. wink

Oh just that one my dearest gods hear my yearnings.

What else could funk be all about ?

Yes, I hear you - these are weak songs (the production on It sounds really dated today), when I had the cassette, I'd always have to fast forward all of IGBABN to get to Adore - probably the Greatest Song of All Time (or something! smile ), and often times I'd just get to "confusion", and....confusion, and that was really good fun - it's not a bad song, it's just not the rest of SOTT smile

Dated? why?

I donno,...it's those "stab" sounds, on the synth, I think they're called....they sound Old today. Also the beats.

I love “It”. Many will disagree, but I think “Hot Thing” is filler...and so is “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night”.

Hot Thing yes, it should have been replaced by the great Shockadelica.

Hot Thing is one of the best songs he ever wrote.

What, best song he ever wrote, the fuck no. He's got two hundred and fifty four songs better written than that, for instance Shockadelica.

ForceofNature

I like Shockadelica a ton, one of my favs. But I do think "Hot Thing" works best for SOTT when it comes to fitting in in relation to the flow and vibe of the songs surrounding it.

Hot Thing was, is, and will always be one of my faves from the album. Also love the live version from the movie. I will say I am NOT a fan of the remix.

I was shocked when I first heard it.The lyrics are way too simple.

hot thing....barely 21.....hot thing.....looking for big fun eek

I know this isn't a popular opinion (lol) but I think the song is mediocre.

Strive

Hot Thing is an undeniable groove.

Check out the Montreux 2013 version if you need a beginner's course or check out the nearly hour long rehearsal jam on I'm Gonna Kick Your Ass if you want a master's degree. lol

There are NO WEAK songs on " Sign o'the Times" except for "U got the look" top notch material all around. It's in his Holy grail of great albums. why don't u so-called fans breakdown 3121 or Planet Earth instead. This excellent album should never be any talk of weak songs ever. Prince made a kick ass double album & it's seriously getting dissected with several weak songs as a topic. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

.

I won't call U Got the Look weak, but it is my least favorite from that album without question.

That's what I've been saying, the music is alright though.
