The digital length of "Still Waiting"? I know this may sound like a silly question, but it's a detail I like & I'm hoping maybe 1 of U might know. ;) From my personal experience, the CD version of "Still Waiting" from Prince's self-titled album is a couple of seconds shorter in its acoustic intro than the cassette version. I have no idea why, but I keep hoping WB will finally get around 2 taking care of that sometime. Since these days it's also 4 sale on iTunes, do any of U know if the iTunes digital version of that song is like the cassette release, or the CD release? |

On the CD, à single edit (that had been released on the vinyl single) replaced the LP/cassette version. It is not known why, or if Prince had anything to do with it. I believe the cd configuration of the album is the one that is on all streaming platforms except for HDTracks. The original album configuration was released digitally there, most likely because HDTracks used a different master. So it's not "lost", you can get it there. Yes, this has been known for years. The 4:12 version on the CD apparently comes from a Still Waiting 12'' promo from 1980 (https://www.discogs.com/P...ase/174273) (strangely not listed on Princevault). Here is the LEGAL way to access the original album config: https://www.hdtracks.com/...ed93ffdb42 It may be on other plaforms by now, I didn't bother to check, but some years ago I was told only HDTracks had this particular master (overall, it appears their versions of the whole 78-88 catalogue sound somewhat better than the CD's, too).
