At some point there is going to be another Purple Rain (reissue)

I have been thinking about this one a bit now after seeing what was done with 1999 and the plan for Sign of the Times. We all know the PR was done very quickly to get product out there and keep the name and the music going. I think at the 40th Anniversary of PR we are going to see this happen, but more like what they have done for 1999 and SOTT. I am sure we all have things we would like to see but seeing how they are leaning to always include every version of a song, I think we are going to have to be faced with buying this album, most of the stuff we have, all over again to get something new that they will for sure include. Maybe that will be a full movie soundtrack including all the music, maybe the inclusion of the movie on dvd, deleted scenes, remastering maybe rehearsal footage too, since I think it would be ridiculous to include the concert DVD again. I think they should also look into all the protege albums and just get them out there in some form, even if you dont do "remaster" projects with unreleased stuff or mixes, just put the albums out again, its not that difficult in reality, unless he totally gave up the ownership of this music and thats the hold up. The market for it is the loyals, i mean I have a hunch most would buy Jill Jones on CD, or even LP, or Vanity 6 (the vanity stuff on motown, good luck getting rights) Apollonia 6 etc... I mean we know its not going to sell to new fans, but loyals would eat this up.

Probably, just like they keep putting out singles collections, but I don't think fans are going to fall for it unless they really find a treasure trove of unseen, unheard material.

I'm also not sure how big the hardcore fan base is really...and they couldn't have been holding back material to get the dollars off casual music fans down the road.

Even with 1999, they did a good job, but that's not the bar, that's the floor for what people expect. They will have to improve on these releases with each one. They also need to stop with the filler. Nobody needs the discography vinyl completist approach with the reissued versions, which seems to be the bulk of these releases, and then leave off the unheard extended versions, demos, practice tapes, etc.

The other thing is, if you want to hear WDC with bass line, and they had it to release, you don't need the whole set to get access anymore. People will pick and chose what they stream....which I think is already happening with 1999.

Under normal circumstances I would be against so many deluxe versions of one album - but I would love a *proper* PR deluxe featuring:

- A remaster that is properly done, like the 1999 remaster where dynamics are intact

- Properly sourced vault tracks or remixed from the multitracks like 1999 deluxe. Computer Blue (Hallway) and Our Destiny/RG especially deserve better quality versions out

- More vault tracks encompassing the full era - G-Spot, etc.

Bound to be. Still can’t believe the vault tracks on the deluxe PR didn’t get a vinyl release.

I think most people would disagree with me on this, but I would like to see this sooner rather than later. In fact I would like to see this as the next Warners release after Parade. The deluxe edition was such a wasted opportunity and in some ways a total cock-up. I'd like to see it get a similar treatment to 1999 with a much more extensive collection of vault tracks. And this time include the Revolution version of The Dance Electric! I know people are annoyed that they already paid for the deluxe version and don't want to have to shell out again so soon, but I'm prepared to accept my losses if it means it can be done properly this time. It's Purple Rain after all.

I think there should always be better qualitied reissues forever

I would like to see them take on what Prince initially wanted as a movie soundtrack for Purple Rain

One that included all that was and was to be on there(including Wednesay) What song was to be used for the Barn scene etc

maybe a movie soundtrack part, a what was to be(deleted scenes) and the movie score music

I'd buy it immediately for a proper remaster of the album alone, much less any new stuff. I wouldn't even cry about having to buy the singles disc again (with EC 12" fixed, perhaps?).

I mean this is Purple Rain, for god's sake. It kills me to think that there's people out there right now listening to the PP remaster...

Warner kept ownership of the 1984 protégés albums so it's up to them. If they want to include unreleased material as a bonus, on the other hand, I guess it's safe to assume they'll need to make a deal with the estate since it appears the estate now owns everything in the vault, including the material featuring other vocalists.

I really would be excited by a box set of nothing but Purple Rain rehearsals and soundchecks. What we have already (illicitly) are some of my favourite Prince moments and he played 7 shows in Detroit alone! Imagine what must be sitting there in a cardboard box of c-90s somewhere!

IMO, Purple Rain sounds fine the way it is now. Anything they'd do to it would most likely be very minor. I'm talking about the original album . . . I don't even listen to the 2015 Paisley Park remaster. I listened to it once and put it away. I only really listen to the Vault disc from that release.

I DO love what they did with the artwork on PR Deluxe, making the flowers section in silver. Hopefully they would do something similar for the Super Deluxe.

They need to release a proper remaster. The 12-inches and singles sounded great, but he album proper was all blown out.

I'd buy it if it contained the App6 version of "Manic Monday".

17 Days extended version must be on the next one

and add the Darling Nikki, Take Me With U unedited versions

And make it a package with the August 83 Dance Benefit Show

I’d like to imagine the purpose of the bigger box set this time around is to gauge a disc/cost ratio the public will still buy from.

PR deserves a lot more than even the 8 discs SOTT has.

I'm curious if all the Vault tracks on Purple Rain Deluxe were remastered at Iron Mountain?

Also, I think a SDE edition of Purple Rain MUST include the movie, Syracuse concert and Benefit concert. That's 3 discs right there.

i would rather have LA show where he did "ATWIAD" songs & "4 the tears in your eyes". Bruce Springsteen & Madonna came out for the encore.
I think " America" was played as well with them.
I've had enough of the Syracuse show.
Better yet, even the Atlanta show would be cool🙂

There were a few after shows for the Purple Rain period that would be cool to see/hear. One in particular was one at the 7st St Entry(First Avenue) with just Prince on guitar, BrownMark on bass and Bobby Z on drums, I would like to see those pre PR tour shows too, like the Red White & Blue band show

.

And I have so much from the ATWIAD era that needs to be shared

The extended version of 17 Days that I have sounds pretty good! On par or better than most of the Vault tracks on PR:Deluxe.

I think someone with the right equipment/software could clean it up pretty well for release.

Is the major complaint about the Paisley remaster of the album brickwalling?

It's the way the compression is used. Brickwalling may be a result of that.
