‘Chelsea Rodgers’ is actually really good! Wow!

I can’t believe I’ve slept on this song for so long! I think I only listened through Planet Earth maybe once and only periodically returned to Guitar and sometimes Somewhere Here On Earth (to convince some of my friends of how good of a vocalist he is)

I’m pretty sure I went in and out with the rest of the record. Until recently. Future Baby Mama is great and especially Chelsea Rodgers with that 🔥🔥🔥bass🔥🔥🔥

It's surely one of his great late period songs. Certainly a highlight of the 21 Nights shows in London.

It’s my favorite track on the Planet Earth album. It’s so campy. I always liked it- go’head Chelsea biggrin

It's a fun song but I always felt like Sticky Like Glue did everything it did way better.

Maybe if we actually heard the entire Sticky Like Glue song...

yeah, the great "Sticky Like Glue" is about as good as any prime era Prince song...i love 'Chelsea Rogers' too, not as much as SLG, but theyre both great songs

SLG is a terrific song, but it glides along with an easy coolness. Chelsea Rodgers has so much more energy.

Yeah, 'Sticky Like Glue' is prime Prince. That song makes me wish for the days of the maxi-single with an extended version and multiple remixes.

Meh, doesn't seem that similar to me. It's not like Thinking Out Loud which is a complete ripoff of Let's Get It On.

There are similarities, but I'd say the bassline and guitar parts are different enough. I mean, there's not much to it, the bass is doing that funk octaves-walking-down thing, you hear it in loads of songs. I can probably give him the benefit of the doubt on this one - if he nicked it, he did enough new with it IMHO.

Chelsea Rodgers will always remind me of the 21 Nights in London and Shelby of course. That summer, that song was even played in my local high street shops... It's not my favourite Prince song but still a happy reminder of those fun times.

I have a good story about this song...My husband and used to live in a 3 flat, which was next door to a condo building in which the balconies faced our building. We always could hear music from next door and have heard the occasional Prince song which was always cool. My husband likes Prince, but not really a big fan (not even close to my level at least).

One day, before we were married, I was walking from our garage to the building and I could hear Chelsea Rogers blasting from somewhere, which immediately brought a smile to my face as 1) its a great song, but 2) I knew someone around here is a fan like me as that is a DEEP cut imo. I was thinking, I need to find out who is playing that as I am sure we would be friends.

I get upstairs to our apt, and realize its coming from our place. I open the door and find my husband dancing around like a fool to CR...it was a classic, I-wish-I-filmed-it...cause he had no idea was standing in the kitchen watching him. What do I do? Cracked the hell up of course...then obviously joined him! We played the song at our reception after telling our guests this story. It filled the dance floor and was one of the highlights of the night. So special love for CR!!

COME ON! It's an obvious ripoff without giving credit. I'm a fan, but not a fanboy who's defending everything he does. And It's not the first time he "borrowed" from others, and it wasn't the last time (Colonized Mind).

Again, I don't think that's a ripoff necessarilly. He's done enough new with it.

I dunno, maybe I have a higher tolerance for this stuff as a musician - songs all feed into each other, nothing is born in a vacuum. As long as he puts enough of his own flavour in there, it feels okay to me.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until I heard the "no responsibility" line, and then I cringed.
