Nasty, playful and funky Prince with the NPG. Tell Me How U Wanna B Done. Live 1993 I have gotten hooked on this segment from the Act I Tour. The groove is nonstop from the second part of The Continental. What I love about Prince is that he is so serious with his music that he can take a throwaway track like Get On Up and Integrate it into a musical segment. I've seen two videos of this performance and both got its charm. The first is Prince all nasty and devious. "Should I go like an circle, like a Merry go round. Like You and your Girlfriend used to ride up and down" and doing three squats at the same time. Holy shit that is dripping nasty. And his dance when he leaves over his microphone to Maytes spoken part. Wow! He really was a generationally amazing dancer whatever people have to compare to MJ all the time. A hell lot sexier than MJ, straight fact. And later asking up a girl on stage "yeah you baby with your raised hand" The second video is basically the same performance but with Tony M(who is showing great character and likeable features)and other members of The NPG doing the Soul Train line with all the girls on stage. Both videos have the "Get on up!" Singing from both the women crowd and the male crowd in perfect harmony. And Levi is on point all the time. And I guess there is no playback from the Michael B, he is just that good during this segment? I adore this segment and I wish it gets more attention. Those liveshows looks as good as anything from 1987-1988. Underrated as hell! NPG had to be the tighest band at that period. Really amazing musiciansship.

I have an opinion: 'Don't worry, I won't hurt you, I only want you to have some fun' before singing 'Controversy', or as he addresses an audience, or has the overhead voice do it, is a kind soul immediately making the room and people at ease in his presence. That is how it has always felt to me, then we launch in and let loose/ 1999.

And TRUE: I have never, ever, felt anything sexual from MJ's singing. Zero nada nothin.
I never compare the 2.
JMO, RIP Prince love | |

And, I'm sorry, what instruments did Michael play?
((I hate the comparison sorry))

And did Michael guest with other musicians (besides his family) mentor or guide other singers?
HUGE differences and Prince's dancing. Yes, just by watching starting at 38 minutes Prince do 2 songs, he was slam dunk a better dancer than MJ. Oh yeah. Prince was IT.

I've always liked Carmen's Everybody Get On Up so I love that section you speak of. . Also, agree on this NPG with horns being his best band

Zadie Smith had a nice piece on appreciating both Michael Jackson and Prince as dancers without having to turn it into a fight over who is better.

Thanks jaawwnn, that was an interesting analysis indeed. I 've always wondered when I saw the MJ footage like the last couple of years: how extremely repetitive it is, and how grotesque the moves are in a way. Zadie finally makes some sense of it. Well I prefer Prince's illegibility any day

MJ was a great dancer, but I've always compared his moveset to Janet. They moved so similar in their videos. But get back to the topic please.

Always loved Levi's guitar playing during this segment. He always plays the riff slightly different too when Prince shouts him to "On the one, stroke it Levi!"

I would love to see this- his concert in 1993 is my fave. I know you can’t post links but any suggestions on how I can find this? I can’t find it on YouTube
Thanks! Edited: I see it’s the Act One tour. [Edited 7/4/20 14:35pm]

Prince wouldn't have liked this description of him: "thin-legged, powered from the torso rather than the backside, which in both cases was improbably small. " My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

That's why it's a good piece, it didn't have to go through Prince's approval.
