Let's talk about the Beautiful Experience EP

I am now re-discovering this EP/maxi single.I dont see it get much love on here. What are everyone's favorite tracks on this?
I am lovin' "Beautiful" a lot, almost more than the original song. Also who is the girl talking throughout the "Mustang instrumental "?

I've always had a bit of a thing for this EP... it was one of the first Prince releases I had on both CD and vinyl. Sure I've read before that the girl's voice was Nona's?

I loved it at the time, I remember poring over the booklet.
I also think it's Nona on the Mustang Instrumental.
The Mustsmg Mix is my favourite version with the re-recorded vocals

Mustang Mix is one of the best things he ever did. As a remix EP, it's probably the best, right up there with Space for me. Maybe Space is a little better.

I'd agree. "Space" is a tiny bit better.

TBE is a great EP. I used to listen to it front to back all the time on my bus ride to work.

Quick story: I had the EP on a cassette. My walkman was one of those that had a reverse button, so at any point I could hit reverse and it'd start playing the other side of the cassette. Handy feature so you didn't have to take the cassette out, flip the tape, and hear the other side.

Well, the EP had the same songs on both sides of the cassette. Out of boredom on my ride, I started trying to figure out where the middle of the tape was located. I experimented a few times, and eventually found it. So somewhere right in the middle of a song, I could hit the reverse button and the song wouldn't lose a beat, but it would now be playing on side B instead of side A. So really, half the tape ended up getting played more than the other half, because I'd just reverse the tape yet continue the songs to the end. It also left my tape rewound to the beginning of side A every time.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Always assumed Matye.
Yes I do love the EP. At the time of release I recall being disappointed it didn’t “rock” more and frustrated that material like Endorphinmachine and Days of Wild weren’t coming out. I’ve generally found the sound of the standard mix (track 7) to be too quiet. I’ve always used the version from the CD single when compiling a mix tape.

Yeah, not sure how it would be anywhere else since the song was written about her, and she did her own female version.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Her voice sounds completely different though. I guess he could have pitched it or something, as he was known for doing.

Anyone getting fucked by Prince would lower their voice a notch or two. LOL

I really wasn't sure what to make of it at the time. On one hand it seemed a little superfluous, on the other it sounded really futuristic at the time (at least for the 16 y.o. boy I was) and I appreciated that. There was a true aura of mystery around all these new tracks that surfaced on this maxi, the 2 radio promo tapes, the CD-Rom and the Beautiful Experience video.

Yes, you’d expect it to be Mayte but it doesn’t sound much like her.
.
It doesn’t say on Pvault but I’m sure I read somewhere it was Nona and it does sound like her voice from The Beautiful Experience movie. It could even be an out-take from it.

It's Nona on the Mustang Instrumental. I remember back in the day, NPGMC had a discography and listed the vocals being by Nona. I emailed them asking if the vocals were done by Mayte, as I'd always assumed she had done the vocal. The email response I got back was "No, it's Nona."

I always think of “2morrow” as a Beautiful Girl remix. Brilliant tune...the vocal and horn arrangments are to die for. Underrated Gem.

HMM! Interesting, but now that you mention it, I suppose it is her. Cool beans.

Well, this one was a real disappointment and i love this song. I think its one his best popsongs. Very catchy, Perfect performed and mixed. It was clear this this one will hit! But using the title after the great b.e. Movie and releasing this crap, was a let down. Mustang mix and beautiful are great, but the rest is useless...(and then charging 20 DM For this..haha)
