biggrin I agree that most politicians have their “agendas”; however, history will show - and it’s already showing - that Obama’s plans and intentions far exceeded Trump’s on every level, especially from a moral and ethical standpoint, as well as acting on behalf of the greater good instead of the corporate greed.

Nothing says acting on behalf of the greater good like bailing out wall street, abandoning main street, overthrowing multiple governments, continuing Bush policies and drone striking thousands of individuals without trial. lol lol lol

Oh and don't forget about Obama's grand bargain where he fought to try to cut medicare and social security https://en.wikipedia.org/...tes,_2011)

Same way that Bill Clinton betrayed Americans by destroying welfare in America and repealing the Glass-Steagall Act.

Now we have an Orger blatantly disregarding the GIANT RECESSION left in Obama's lap by George Bush's crappy leadership and pointless war. Here's a reminder of what Obama walked into as a new President and how he left things in 2016:

*

Factcheck.org - link to full report below:

*

Obama had the unique disadvantage of taking office in the midst of the worst financial crisis si...Depression. More than 4 million jobs were lost in his first year in office, on top of the 4 million lost in George W. Bush’s final year.

To be sure, Bush’s eight years were marked by two recessions, including one that began two months after he took office in 2001. That helps explain why job creation on his watch was by far the worst of any post-war administration.

*

Unemployment — The unemployment rate was high when Obama took office — 7.8 percent — and it continued to get worse in his first year. It peaked at 10 percent in October 2009 and didn’t drop below 9 percent until two years after that.

But slowly, and more or less steadily, the rate improved. By the time Obama left office, the jobless rate had dropped 3 full percentage points, an improvement exceeded only by the slightly bigger declines during the Clinton and Kennedy-Johnson administrations.

*

Both Obama and Reagan left office with job approval ratings above 50 percent.

*

Profits had surged under George W. Bush as well, but when Obama took office they had plunged from their previous peak in 2006, due to the financial crisis and ensuing economic downturn. Then they recovered quickly under Obama — far more quickly than jobs or personal incomes — and reached a new record in 2010, his second year in office.

From there they climbed even higher, setting more new annual records in 2012, 2013 and 2014, when they reached $1.74 trillion.

Seems like the part of this presentation in which Hannah discusses/shows shows the jacket and White House performance pic brings people to a number of topics, such as...

-- Hannah mentioning the jacket to Prince and his subsequent gifting it to her

-- Any political associations with performing at the White House during the Obama administration

From what Hannah says here, the personal significance of the jacket seems to be (among other important things) that it is a symbol and memento of that performance.

This sparked thread statements about Obama, both positive and negative. Some ignorant and offensive. That's at best.

Like everyone, I've got my own views:

With Obama and Clinton, I have some big problems, including that they served Wall Street too much and Main Steet too little. But they also did great things while in office.

With regard to almost everything, the George W. administration was far, far worse.

Trump is depraved and vile. His presidency is absolutely devastating to the U.S. As a U.S. citicizen, I'm ashamed and horrified that this is what we're bringing to the world.

But here's the thing. The thread title is "Hannah and Josh finally talk about Prince." So whatever we think, the reminder (by picture and discussion) here of that performance is a reminder of a choice that the musicians made. Hannah, Josh and Prince were all cool enough with Obama to appear at the Obama administration White House, and to grace it with incredible music.

I'm most interesting in listening to those who knew Prince up until the end. Prince considered the Weltons to be his family and loved them very much so I probably value their perspective most of all. I love their positive energy and their faith. I'm also proud of them for trying to spread their message.

No one should be judged for the specific faith or atheistic view they may practice. I think both Hannah and Josh seem passionate about what they do, and also grateful for their time with Prince. However, I think we need to be careful with that dynamic based on the fact that Prince only knew them for a small portion of his time here, and like most of his relationships/associations, we can't be sure of how long it would have continued. it's been said that Prince changed bands and associates because he regularly needed new and/or different inspiration - both musically and otherwise. So, we can't be sure of where his relationship with them would be in 2020.

Great to hear their stories and experiences though.

Judging by her amazing accent alone, I would have worried that sweet potato pie had a lard crust.

YIKES! Great point.

I love collard greens, but I make them without pork. Some people tell me that's a disgrace. Especially when I visit my SC relatives.

Different tastes for different folks. biggrin

Was so funny to hear that Prince said eating romaine lettuce was like eating paper. I grew up with that in almost every salad that hit the table. Prince would have said, "NO paper."

And, according to the Houlihan's potato soup story, P's staff also knew that they'd better hold the bacon, too.

It's funny, because when I was telling my husband about what I learned (from this interview) about some of Prince's favorite foods, his ears perked up at the potato soup. He said, "But that wouldn't work, because people are going to think they should add bacon to it."

Glad to hear how well my Prince stories have schooled my husband. He'd order that soup right!

The funny thing is the bulk of Kale sales in the US until recently was for salad bar garnish to be decorative, and wasn't thought of as being very edible.

The story about Prince insisting on ordering a sandwich at Subway for him and a NPG member, and it's only bread and onions, is pretty great too.

eek lol

How could I have forgotten that one? Tried to re-find it through google, but my google skills are no good today.

So glad to be reminded, though, because now I've got a plan to go order a bread + onion sandwich in honor of Prince.

Already used to getting funny looks at restaurants. Happens when you eye people's garnishes. "Are you planning to eat that?"

1. "These 2 never interested me at all."--That was Empress' comment, not mine.

.

2. "I wonder if their childishness is what attracted Prince to them in the first place..." That is my comment and I do wonder if their child-like traits are what Prince was interested in. In no way is this taking a potshot at someone.

.

3. Laughing at someone's funny comment is not a sin last time I checked.

.

4. Pointing out that posting inflammatory comments here belonging to P&R will get the thread locked is not asking for a thread to be locked but a fact. I certainly didn't "snitch" to anyone much less a mod.

.

5. Your main agenda on this board seems to be to bait and antagonize people to stir the pot for negative results.

Now that the facts have been straightened out--stir on! lol razz
