so. where do we begin?

so there's this guitarsolo, or more accurately, there are two guitar solos, bridged by
some guitar stabs or scratching or whatever, in the song "Nagoya".

starting at 3:40 all the way up to almost the end of the song at about 8:40 there's
something i can't quite put my finger on. it sounds like there are 2 guitars at times.

but according to princevault it's only prince on guitar and rhonda on bass.

now, there might have been some guitar overdubs done on this recording at a later
date before release (because, let's be honest, some of the absurdly atmospheric and
totally unique shit on both Osaka & Tokyo were not done live, and if it was, then well
i'm amazed, times three)

however, here we come to Renato. some of those atmospheric nuances and fills may
be conjured from one of his many keyboards/synths?

same, i'm wondering might go for some of those guitar parts i'm hearing that are (in
my humble, untrained dumbass opinion) neither fills or stabs or scratches on prince's
lead guitar, yet also don't seem to be part of the bassline.

but because there's some form of distortion on the guitarsolo's and then there is a bit
of an effect on the bass as well (?) they sound close enough to trade between them at
certain points.

which is where even more 'guitar' parts of noises or single chords enter the mix, which
i'm guessing may or may not be a synth that sounds like a guitar?

where the synth itself is ALSO sounding slightly like the guitar tone and distortion to
my ears



what was i asking? oh yeah, my question would simply be this: by any chance was one
of our little org club present when this was recorded live in nagoya?

and if so, what can you tell us?

also, people who understand a little bit about music and can actually tell a guitar from
a keytar (that's about the length and breath of my knowledge) could perhaps take a
listen to those 4 minutes and tell me what they think is going on all at once?

beyond that, i just wanted to praise "Osaka" and "Tokyo" again. wow. i'm so so so so
so so happy that he released this. i cherish it. i love it.

was anyone here present at either of those two recordings?

On Nagoya, the guitar is the driving piece...on Osaka, it's almost like an afterthought in its placement on the track towards the latter part of the track.

I think Prince's piano is the most moving instrument on Osaka to me.

Anyway, I imagine Prince probably did the Purple Rain thing where he takes the live recording and overdubs it with studio fills later on. That might be why we hear the multiple streams of guitar. There's software now where you can duplicate tracks sounds as many times as you want and add multiple sound effects to them.

So, put nothing past our dude to create an awesome track.

I'm listening to C-Note now, as a result of your post, and the computer is playing Empty Room, my favorite track on this "album".

and i guess you're right, it must be quite a few overdubs going on here, as he did so in the past
