It's pics like these that make me question how shy he really was. Like, how can you be so shy but have no issue prancing around in public in your unders. Any shy orgers out there that can help me understand?

Ahhhh question all the people who knew him?
Basically, he could perform for thousands but go into his shell in front of six strangers.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

He was a Gemini so he had that split in his personality.

Shyness can go right out the window if you surround yourself by people you're real comfortable with. They must have emboldened him. Sometimes shy people can over compenate with outlandishness and like to control a room, it's just breaking that initial wall that's the problem.

It's for the cabaret, you dummie.

No one in their sane mind goes out in the streets in thighs.
Not Vanity, Brenda, Susan, Apollonia, Sheila and the whole shegang.
Certainly not Skipper.
It's a stage outfit.

Showing skin was, but isn't around this same era he started to make a point of never being seen in normal civilian clothes? I guess the Versace era he starts up more flashy stage costumes compared to what he wears off stage, but there still isn't always that clear cut differentiation.

You can be very shy and protective of your mind, but a body and looks like that allow you to put on a shell and perform in public. You can't do it all the time, but for a stage show, absolutely. I do it every night when I go to work in my nurse uniform. A costume gives you strength.

There's different types of shyness. I for instance am the opposite. I'm very outgoing and bold when I'm around 1-5 people, but put me in a room of 10+ and all I wanna do is blend into the wall.

Sure.

But I doubt he would make his morning (afternoon) entrance in Studio A like this :

It's like the canary assless pants.
They're made to perform.

Picture if you will Skipper seated at his PP desk rereading contracts.

Man this chair is fuzzy. Is that a hair?

Hey, you're the one who wants to kiss it.
Most people know how to refrain themselves.

Having a look at Prince's hairy tushy
will always be 1,000 times better
than any hateful thread stinking around.

Move over when you're done with the kissing.
Some people can be so greedy.

Ha. Well he did have a sense of humor... (and at one point, a studio bed).... and it was used as a home now and again.

The faux assless pants were definitely made to perform, and it was a tiny bombshell when revealed the cut outs were covered with nude material.

I will never forget him doing that for as long as I live! I was watching with my family, who totally thought I was weird because I loved Prince, and who weren't fans of his in any way, shape, or form, and couldn't for the life of them, see what I saw in him. They thought he was totally weird! I convinced them to watch the show with me, because I knew he was performing, then when he pulled that stunt and showed his nearly naked butt to the world, you should have seen their faces! biggrin....I have to admit, my face was probably no better, because I felt so embarrased! Can you imagine what they thought about him after that, not alone what they thought about me? lol I can just see them thinking..."THIS is the guy that you're so crazy about, the one whose music and everything else, you LOVE? Omg!!!!! lol

Uh...no. I know P's music well. If you notice, it was more a question about being shy, which some orgers have explained quite nicely.

I feel the crux of his lack of "shyness" when performing was he worshipped some of the greatest/wanted to be the greatest musical performer of all time. It's just the contradiction that it would require actively being the complete opposite of shy to achieve that... but that was his passion/gift/focus, so he did what he had to do, but only when he was doing it.

Ah, yes, the *ss seen around the world. He got so much crap for this moment. And yet Madonna comes out with a book of 'staged' photos that show her in various sexual acts with famous people and she gets applauded for it because it's 'art'. Go figure......

Madonna got plenty of heat for that book, it was even banned in Japan.

I don't know the point of comparing them, but Madonna didn't get a free pass, she took plenty of heat. Either way, I wouldn't compare a book of erotic art nudes with Prince surprising a live tv audience by "exposing" himself, mooning the crowd, in front of Caligula themed backup dancers, while singing a song overtly about sex. Consider how much heat Janet took for the Super Bowl years after Prince did something vaguely similar. In my opinion he got away with something only Prince could get away with.

It's easy. It's the same thing that let's you tell your life story and dirty secrects to a bartender. He knew he would never have to meet or talk to his audience. Being onstage is just like being on the internet. You can say whatever kind of stupid shit you want and it's up to you whether or not you check out the response later. In fact, being on a real stage with lights makes it pretty much impossible to see beyond the third row. Being onstage is easy. It's no different in my mind than practicing in front of a mirror. Some people have anxiety for sure, but most get so into what they're doing (or having to concentrate so hard to do it right), that the audience is an afterthought. I'm perhaps more shy than Prince when I'm face to face with a group of people, but if you get in toperformer mode and pretend the audience isn't there you can do anything.

It's been stated (similarly) by more than one associate that P could easily perform in front of thousands of people but clam up in front of five.
