Your dream Super Deluxe Edition release order?

I was on another music forum the other day, and the topic of "which Prince 'golden era' SDE I want next" came up. ('Golden Era' covers 1980 through 1989.) So I was wondering, you Orgers you, what is your dream release schedule of remaining Super Deluxe Editions? Here's mine:

.

1) Sign 'O' The Times

2) Lovesexy (with The Black Album as a "bonus")

3) Around The World In A Day

4) Batman

5) Dirty Mind

6) Parade

7) Controversy

.

I know a lot of you are going to have an aneurysm over my low ranking of "Parade". Musically it's a wonderfully diverse set of songs... but it's just never connected with me. Although I was very well aware of Prince from "1999" on, I didn't get Purple Fever until the summer of 1987, when a friend sat me down and made me listen to most of "Sign 'O' The Times". And I was hooked.

.

So don't take my low ranking as some sort of hatred. Or judgment! So many fans take this stuff personally. It's just not one of my faves.

My order would be:

-Around The World In A Day

-Parade

-Black Album

-The Rainbow Children

-Dirty Mind

-Exodus

-The Dawn (a mix of Come, Chaos & Disorder, Gold Experience & that era)

-The Vault (Old Friends 4 Sale)

-Sign Of The Times (not sure there's much to this after a proper Parade one..)

And I'd love to see superdeluxe sets of things he tried but never *really* did, an acoustic album like the Truth, but then acoustic. A piano album like One Nite Alone, but then just piano... fill it with studio, rehearsal, live, whatever recordings with just acoustic guitar or piano.

Actually, would love a superdeluxe version of the Truth...

Okay, getting off my original topic for a second: I would *love* to see an actual track listing from the depths of The Vault for the mythical "Dawn" album/experience. Was it ever really planned out? Was it just something he was thinking-out-loud about? I'm very curious as to how "real" this project really was.

I just want hit n run 3, 4, and 5.

The stuff he was doing before he transitioned is much more interesting to me. Besides, it would be reflective of who he was at that time making it deeply connective material.

Don't get me wrong, love the old stuff and I understand why they prioritise it as those albums were big sellers in the day, but it would be nice to get a balance of brand new material vs old!

Right same here. black is the new black etc. I'd also like to hear a configuration of Welcome 2 America which was in the works at some point.

The OCD in me would really prefer chronological, like I always do with art. I mean I guess it's irrelevant now since they already skipped ahead to 1999, but this jumping back and forth between eras isn't really my bag.... and I include stuff like The Time and Vanity 6 albums as part of that chronology....

Forget all the remastered albums. I don't give a shit about those. Just give us Camille, The Flesh, The Dream Factory, Rave (original 1989 version). That's what I want. And I don't want to buy albums I already own to get that. In other words: start a Prince: From the Vault Series, just like Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series.
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Although I disagree with forgetting the remastered albums, I am all for you "From The Vault" idea. That would be great. Especially Camille.

Dream Factory + Camille + Crystal Ball + Sign O' The Times as ONE package.

+ the full story (with the very important and interesting 'The Revolution' break up that went prior to it etc) that lead to this amazing inimitable creative era.

Any 'Super Deluxe' version would be fine to me.

Only :

less mono versions, edit versions;

these are easy to put up for a free download or streaming.

More demo's (if they exist),

and early configurations if so.

More live shows, some reheasals if possible - could be very interesting...

Better alternative artwork.

Less unuseful 'glorifying' words by those who haven't worked with him.

Why not a small documentary included by those engeneers/ band members who worked with him; song-to-song stories.

No need for 5 different versions releases imho.

I would like to see 2 streams of goods:

online Springsteen nugs type archival live release each week

Then:

Parade

Dirty Mind

Controversy

I would like to see

a format similar to 1999 but with 2 -3 more discs of alt takes and outtakes, and blu ray which presents all the goods audio and video in one spot similar to the Yes and XTC sets available.

Music is the best...

Strive

If we are dreaming of a Super Deluxe Edition, this would be mine.

Disc 1: 3121
Disc 2: Milk & Honey (Prince vocals)

Disc 3: Planet Earth
Disc 4: LOTUSFLOW3R
Disc 5: MPLSoUND
Disc 6: Elixer (Prince vocals)
Disc 7: B-sides, demos & unreleased songs from that period

Disc 8, 9, 10: The raw 3 & a half hour recording session from November 19, 2004.

A three and a half hour recording session with Michael B. and Sonny T. at Paisley Park Studios yields 3121, From The Lotus..., ...Back 2 The Lotus, Colonized Mind, Love Like Jazz, Planet Earth, Guitar, Wall Of Berlin and Shameless and two or three other unknown titles.

Sign O' The Times
Out of everything that remains unreleased I primarily want as many 1986 out-takes as possible. Dream Factory, Camille, Crystal Ball, and a lot of the non-LP tracks like We Can Funk ‘86, Data Bank, Crucial, Wally. Should any of this early content spill onto the end of Parade SDE then that would become a priority too.

The Black Album
Mainly to hear what Prince was recording throughout 1987 when Paisley Park first opened.

NPG Exodus
I love all the material that was shelved for this project. Proud Mary, Super Hero / Outa Space, Mad, Slave, Acknowledge Me, Funky Design, Love ... Thy Will Be Done, Funky, It Takes 3! Give me everything!

Purple Rain
For a definitive box set with the missing pieces like Wednesday, Electric Intercourse (anything but the version that was on the previous release), the First Avenue concert material.

Batman
To hear all the Rave era material that was shelved when Batman came around. I’m also curious to hear ‘Anna Waiting’.

Come
I would have chosen The Gold Experience, but given it’s legal standing Come would be able to provide all of the unheard out-takes from The Dawn 93 / The Beautiful Experience era.

The Chocolate Invasion
I much prefer all the ‘High’ era tracks than ‘The Rainbow Children’. If there are any other upbeat and R&B style tracks from this era then I want to hear them.

Lotusflow3r
I’ve really began to warm to both Lotusflow3r & MPLSound so an expanded box of these two albums would make for an interesting listen.

Mikado

Would really like a Prince set. The tracklist for that album went through a lot of changes and we've never heard a lot of the songs from that era (I've always wondered what Darling Marie sounds like, for example). Throw in the sessions from The Rebels and I'd say that would be an amazing boxset.

A certain kind of mellow.

The only remaster super deluxe I think needs one is sign of the times. After that have the guts to release a straight up BOOTLEG. Outtakes from all different eras stuck on a four cd set , blast from the past, rare gems style . And whatch that take off. A whole set of stuff that nobody has. I mean really it’s not that hard to do. Just my honest opinion. Lmao!!!

Can I pay with BTC? lol

I mean: why do they stretch things out over such a long time?

I might not have that time.

regarding Controversy: I know that the 'Second Coming' film was never completed, but a few shows were filmed.Take all the existing footage and create a concert film and include the DVD in the set.

I'm sure I say it every time it comes up but the estate can take alot of lessons from the right way to do it by looking at Bob Dylans releases. Start a Bootleg series - Dylan is up to volume 15. He's released whole tour box sets and complete studio recording sessions and they are amazing releases.

Everything that is related to Prince & officially released, I need to get it. I can admit though that the different versions (on 1999 SDE) of Let's Pretend We're Married, Automatic (mono, video, edit) might be boring...

Everything before Batman should take precedence imo, although I expect at least D&P to come before, say, For You for example. Personally I would like ATWIAD next. Other than that, I have no great wishes and really no expectations other than 1 SDE per year with other stuff inbetween like Originals & Piano. As long as they keep the train rolling, I'm happy to snap up whatever comes.
