Prince's Last Testament and Will is buried on the grounds of Paisley Park, according to Neal Karlen...

...apparently?

So, Neal Karlen who did the 1985 Rolling Stone interview with Prince -among others- and was friends with Prince for years, has a Prince book coming out this year that I've been looking forward to for a long time. I haven't heard anything about recently. So I looked it up. It's on preorder on Amazon and Apple books, and I read the description and found THIS interesting tidbit:

Neal Karlen was the only journalist Prince granted in-depth press interviews to for over a dozen years, from before Purple Rain to when the artist changed his name to an unpronounceable glyph. Karlen interviewed Prince for three Rolling Stone cover stories, wrote “3 Chains o’ Gold,” Prince’s “rock video opera,” as well as the rock star’s last testament, which is claimed to be buried with Prince’s will underneath Paisley Park’s vast acreage.

This seems like new news!

I think he's one of the people claiming they knew there was a will without giving these details, but what he's not doing is testifying what was in the will, and what he was there to do as a witness or claiming to know who the proper executor was supposed to be, etc. So it's just selling books.

What would be the point of burying a time capsule without telling anyone where it was?

Plus that was from 1993. That would be hard to enforce. You better believe if it popped up, suddenly there'd be a lot of people talking about so called conversations they had with Prince about his wishes since then. Mysterious drafts of wills would pop up.

Hey ya'll,

I haven't been on prince.org for months, because of the snark, and the weird/long threads about conspiracy stuff... which I think are insensitive. I used to check prince.org every day since the old version literally 20 years ago.

I think Neal Karlen's book is big deal. I thought this was the appropriate place to share this. I can see if people think this particular tidbit is irrealavent, but people's attitudes here are so unpleasant.

Have fun, you guys.

If Karlen has waited this long to reveal that information in order to sell books then that pretty much sums up his state of ethics and integrity.

Thank you, I hadn’t heard about this book before. I’ve enjoyed Karlen’s articles/interviews about Prince and will probably read this book.

I still maintain that if you're going to cremate someone THAT quick, like they did with Prince, there had to be an instruction that was talked about before he died. I'm not saying he was sick with any terminal disease (I think the medical and/or autopsy records proved that not to be the case) but some kind of conversation had to have happened with someone. And going by that, a will has to be some where.

I'm assuming everyone knows that in 2016, Neal Karlen described writing things that were included with materials buried in time capsules at Paisley Park. I don't know of any mention of a will among these things.

If a will was mentioned, it wouldn't be the only past mention of a will having been in place at some point in time over the years.

Any chance he's referring to a will for pre-symbol Prince? P did ask Neal to write an explanation, from P's point of view, about how the old Prince was dead, and P was changing his name to a symbol.

So now, does that mean the relatives of Prince will now take shovels to the grounds of Paisley Park, and tear it up inch by inch, looking for this supposed will?

Yeah that's what I thought. That, or some crazy fans with lots of time on their hands right now start digging. Good to know someone else has these thought too!

That seems like a very Prince-ish thing to do. I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Bingo.
Whoever wrote that press release mucked it up.
Here's what Neal wrote in 2016:
"

"The last thing we worked on together was a private 1993 manifesto, written by me in his voice, explaining why he really changed his name to that goofy glyph. He told me the manifesto was for a “time capsule” to be buried on the grounds of Paisley Park. I have no idea if it ever was. I have my copy on a last-century floppy disk in a Minikahda Storage locker where I keep memories I don’t know where to put."

I'm sure ground-penetrating radar was driven all over the PP grounds to find that. Who knows? That $900,000 in gold bars took awhile to be found.

From what I remember reading, yes, there were "time capsules" supposedly buried at Paisley, at the MPLS Glam Slam, and the NPG Store.
It was somewhat dramatized at the very end of the "3 Chains O' Gold" movie. The "manifesto" was buried at Paisley. All 3 capsules were supposed to be opened New Year's Day, 2000 or around that time but that all changed most likely due to personal and religious changes at the time and may still be where they were buried. Unless, quite plausibly, it was all bullshit.

If there ever was a will, I would have loved to know who Prince decided to give his fortune to, especially since he didn't seem all that close to anyone, and tossed people out of his life left and right, and never looked back. lol

It is likely that he had many copies, revised over the years, Gemini, duality, change. Maybe he wanted his family to receive the money and maintaining Paisley Park, continued production of his music, etc.

If he tossed people out of his life, there was a reason he did that. There are two sides to every story. Generally Gemini men get bored, want change. And behavior is also learned. His Ancestors from his mother and father's side know things though.

Of course, Prince (like all humans) varied in the extent he was able to control things in his life, including his ability to keep things private. Sometimes, people found things out that he didn't want them to know.

P did seem amazingly successful at keeping certain things in his life relatively private. I sometimes feel sad to think that he didn't wish to share more of himself with more people. But I have to step back and realize that when I feel that way, I'm reading into it too much of what I want out of life. It's easy to think how lonely it sounds...how lonely to (seemingly) not seek the kind of support and companionship that can exist between friends and loved ones who know one another really, really well.
