Probably my favorite album, an absolute joy and a timeless offering. I caught on to Purple Rain back in the day, then came ATWIAD which told me there was more to this man and band. Parade nailed it, I was a fan for life. Super Deluxe welcome, please!

This, SOTT, and Purple Rain trade spots for my fave Prince album.

Loved it from day one and it simply does not age. Shout out to Mountains Extended Version, which is perfection.

Yes! Parade is my fave as well. It is a beautiful journey through Funk and Paris. The B-sides, tour, vault material and side projects were also incred during this Era.

And to think SOTT was only a year away. He was in primo GENIUS mode.

Yes, I can't wait! So, so much out-of-this-world music from that album and time.

What video material should be part of the deluxe?

That extended version is such a joy, how beautiful it is to listen that song loudly at night or as the sun sinks.

What a beautiful album, I love the sound of it more than I love the songs themselves, sound so smooth, so sexy, so lush and classy, it's the album that has aged the best of all his discography. Having said that, it could have been much better than it is. Alexa de Paris should have been included, it's an astounding piece of instrumental, so exciting and beautiful. OFS should have been there and so All My Dreams and Love Or Money.

Allow me to butt in here...this is one of my favorite extended versions. And Parade is one of my favorite Prince albums!

I think the unedited 1986 Cobo Hall birthday show is an obvious choice. Maybe even the unreleased "Love or Money" music video.

Yes, that is probably a memory common to many of us - after school, on the first day of the release, go to the record store and buy the album - then rush home and at home, listening for hours on end, looking at the sleeve notes, trying to figure out the texts, immersing in the music - and every twenty minutes or so, getting up to change the record site biggrin

Parade was the first Prince's album that I've bought and the Parade Paris concert was my first concert, this era was too short imo, what if we had a proper Under Cherry Moon soundtrack and a Prince & the Revolution one? I guess that between the commercial and critic failure of UTCM and the tension in the band Prince was eager to move on.

A great album! I was ten at that time so I did not buy the album. I would listen to the songs on the radio and watch one of my favorite videos from that album "Kiss" on TV - Video Music Box.

Exactly !

My first concert in Vorst Nationaal in Brussels. smile

I was just 20yo.

ALthough I wasn't sure at first with 'Kiss' as a single release.

But very quick the extended version dragged me in. Still is one of the best extended versions of a Prince hit, even better than the edit version imho.

Every Revolution member looked so 'modern' and sexy, way better than the by-then out-of-fashion Purple Rain Look. Still remember Wendy's catchy smile in the Kiss video.

And yes, 'Anotherloverholenyohead', what a great tune ! WHat a wonderful tune ! Overlooked a bit. Not often mentioned here I believe.

-

To me, 'Pararde' was the best spring release together with the 'Lovesexy' album, released in full spring (May i believe). I still can relate to that 'feeling'.

Both are still very significant and memorable releases in my life !

(Actually same goes for 'Around The World In A Day'. That album right after PR, really shocked me in every positive way possible).

"Do You Lie", some of the lyrics:

...Do you cry from the inside-out, dear?

Or are they only artificial tears(artificial tears).....

Kiss extended version take the song too far, take it to far from the original sound, I don't like it.

I just listened to the extended version of "Kiss". I like it. "Joy in repetition"! Which is one of my favorite tracks from "Grafitti Bridge".

My ritual when listening to music:

I always listen to my favorite song from the album first (10)times,then I listen to the rest of the songs. That is why I remember the lyrics of many songs - especially my favorite songs!

I love the extended version of Kiss, but agree that it doesn't have the same sound. It makes the song even more interesting than the original imo. My husband, who loves the original, hates the extended.

Anotherloverholenyohead is another perfect one, right up there with Mountains.

We've been listening to this (vinyl) album a lot the last couple weeks. It is one of the "Spring" albums for me. Lovesexy and ATWIAD too

.

Interesting. Any albums that you reach for with the coming of summer, fall or winter?

I associate these with Spring I think due to the fact thats when they were released. But also the music to me just makes me think of Spring.

SOTTs was released in the Spring too I think, but that one makes me think of Summer...I traveled to Ireland summer of 87 and my friends and I played that cassette to death! Purple Rain and1999 also Summer too all because we partied a LOT to them summer of 84.

Fall: Emancipation, D&P, and Gold Experience due to release.

None of them make me think of Winter...mainly because I hate winter.

Now picturing people singing along to SOTT in a gorgeous green landscape. biggrin Never been to Ireland, but would love to see it one day.

Class of '84 here, and so lucky to be of that age...to have had this music pour out through youthful excitement, insecurities and adventures.

Around the World in a Day and Parade both feel very springy/summery to me, and the visuals from the albums, movies, etc. add to that vibe. Especially when contrasted to what we know about how ice cold that not-lake-Minnetonka water was. Brrr.

I guess you can say Lovesexy cover had Prince in the ultimate warm weather attire.

But seriously, I wonder if P also felt a spring vibe to second half of the Lovesexy concert, emerging as it does out of the darkness of first half.

It's a great album and in many ways delivered on Around the World in a Day's promise. I found it to be a more fully realized of Prince's unique psychedelic vision than ATWIAD's sometimes sort of knocked off, borrowed (Beatles, Hendrix) and somewhat forced approach.

Agree with other posters that both albums remind me of spring.

I started listening to Prince With Graffiti Bridge, then worked my way back to For You. Parade took a while to get into (although I remember being blown by Mountains, in the same way as I was blown by The Beautiful Ones). But damn, once I got into it... almost thirty years later and I still listen to it a few times a month. What and amazing album!

Jill Scott

Who is Jill Scott? Three-time Grammy Award winner, Jilly from Willy is one of the most dynamic voices in neo-soul and R&B. Below she picks out her favourite Prince soundtrack which happens to be the soundtrack to a film directed by and starring Prince (as a gigolo).

My favorite Prince record is the Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack! I listened to the record for four years straight… just about everyday. I think musically it’s still superior to anything I’ve ever heard—from the vocals to the music. Sonically, I haven’t heard anything quite like it. I play the album from top to bottom. I consider it a MASTERPIECE!
