My thoughts are that the SOT box set will probably get released in Nov. no matter what. By that time the epidemic will hopefully over. (BTW;That's the rumour that the SOT box set will get released.) 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Of all the albums in his career, that was the one to have listening sessions for. Armed with our lyric book, we were discussing what all the lyrics meant, trying to justify some of them as best we could, while Larry's JW friends infiltrated and befriended.
It was the most exhilirating, incredible and deeply strange and uncomfortable week of my life.

I don't know where in the world you are, but if you're somewhere that seems relatively unaffected by coronavirus so far and there are truly no empty shelves yet, it might be a good moment to grab some toilet roll and paracetamol before it disappears for months.
My only 'open' Prince order is a pre-order for the TRC reissue, although I'd also grab Crystal Ball on vinyl if (a) it came out this year and (b) I'm financially able to, as the situation really does feel like it's changing by the day over here.

Just wanted to clear a MASSIVE piece of misinformation up here...
The SARS outbreak infected around 8,000 people by the time it was contained... COVID-19 has already infected 390,000 in 2 or three months... as of today there have been over 17,000 deaths from COVID-19 worldwide.
SARS and swine flu were, in the words of an on-call doctor the other day doing and LBC radio interview here in the UK, 'a blip' compared to COVID-19.
This is the biggest and most dangerous thing to happen to the human race since at least World War 2, maybe the Spanish flu, before WWII, which killed 65million.
Millions of people are going to die from this before it is contained. Millions.
Okay, just wanted to say that. Please carry on.

Ok, back to my original post, here's some data to illustrate changing listener behaviour: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "According to Alpha Data, an analytics provider, streams in the US dropped some 7.6% during the week of March 13 to March 19 — the week when many Americans first self-quarantined and other non-essential outlets business closed across the country. A similar slump was also seen in album sales and digital song sales. Physical album sales dropped by a staggering 27.6%, digital album sales fell by 12.4%, and digital song sales plummeted by 10.7%." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Physical album sales dropped by a staggering 27.6% - that is quite a significant number. Of course, no one can say how that would translate to Prince releases further down the line...

It would be a great time for the Estate to show the world a little love! It would be such an appropriate time to release a concert video...even half of one, for free! It would lift everyone's spirits during these tense times we are all going through in one way or another to have something new of him.
I know they have to make $ on most of the stuff that they have squirreled away. But, if they would show us some love, I know most of the true family would respond with their pocketbooks the next time another album set is released. Hate to beat a dead horse, but we "ain't getting any younger".
So Estate...how about it? Anyone feel the same?? Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

- Your argument is not complete i believe... Sure your right from 'inexpensive piece of distancing' point of view, etc. But you're forgetting one important issue; all retail (and other) companies connected to it won't earn a penny. Could it be that there is a lobby behind this ? - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Now the next batch of re-releases has been pushed to late May. As supply chains are already being cut globally, I wouldn't be surprised if they were to not get released this summer or year at all.

I don't know nohing.
But I know if Prince was still among us he'd be saying that what's happening now to our world is either foretold in Scriptures...or...that it's a deep CONspiracy. CorONavirus.

- You're right. Still I don't see it possible for 'the estate' to go a streaming level. Rent or buy online?, a very maybe... But you're absolutly right in seeing an opportunity for home audience considdering the current situation. - What I like right now ts that many artists make small video's at home, and show it online through social media. Some of 'm even on a daily basis, or release the likes for fans etc... Sure Prince is dead, I know... but what does 'the Estate' do right now on Instagram or else? Barely nothing. They uploaded a video on Youtube... Yeah right, some live bits of Prince in the nineties and nillies, To be honest, live performances of tracks (cover versions?) that are barely interesting (to me)... (But that's possibly the old me, I never was one for liking his 90's and 00's live shows. I say sorry already, before someone starts kicking my European white trash ass.) - Why can't they put up a full show ? In that case any full show, I don't care? I would please all sorts of people. Prince has, as far as we all know, thousands of hours of filmed shows, or whatever video material is in that vault. Hell why not a virtual tour in that poor 'museum'? Or suprise us with something we haven't heard or seen yet... I hope they put up some more action soon. - All near future releases (2020, maybe even 2021) will be postponed or even cancelled I'm affraid. This virus crisis isn't over in one year time. Mind my words. - Just received the message that The Rainbouw Children is postponed to late May. I do hope, rather wish that the pressing factories, shipping companies and other involved won't suffer to much from this Covit-19/Corona crisis, which is huge here in Europe and will be worse in the US ... which I'm affraid will be the case. Let's hope I'm wrong. Loads of people will loose their jobs, companies will go backrupt etc. (And Trump is no leader to be able to solve this. He's just a sales guy only concerned about his own 5 big private companies that are now already in need of cash, hence his (selfish) desicions right now. "America isn't made to shut down" he said.. really? That level of stupid?!) - Good luck to you all, and STAY IN, RESPECT THE RULES. FOLLOW THE CORRECT INFO, AVOUID FAKE NEWS, DON'T RUSH TO SUPERMARKETS. And if everyone respects these simple rules, then there's no need for panic. Been locked up here for two weeks right now, and it's doable. Stay healthy and help those who need it the most. - [Edited 3/25/20 23:27pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Streaming has actually taken a massive plunge since this got bad. Most popstars are cancelling or pushing back their releases since they can't do any promotion. It would be a very bad time to release new material from a commercial perspective, and these releases need all the help they can get sales wise. A certain kind of mellow.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Incorrect. Just the opposite. Unlike other industries, the streams are still available and people have more time to listen.
Case in point: The Weeknd is having a fantastic first week of his new thing; 425,000 or so in total; of that number plenty of streaming. [Edited 3/26/20 11:01am]
