Identifying tracks on Work It 2.0... part III

Looking for more information on:

V7 D3 track 14 'Poem / Orgasm' (different to 1994 radio version and 'Come' promo single, contains a church bell)

V8 D1 track 1 'Poem / Orgasm' (different to 1994 radio version and 'Come' promo single and to above)

V8 D1 track 2 'Come' (appears to be 2 versions spliced together)

V8 D4 track 15 'NPGMC' (possibly from an ahdio show?)

V8 D4 track 16 ' I Feel For You' (appears to be the Prince and Chaka Khan versions spliced together)

V8 D4 track 17 'Rave Mix 01' (Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic song smples mixed into one long track)

I will update this list as I go back through this treasure trove. Any further info gratefully received and one day hope to share back the definitive comments guide if I ever manage to complete this.

See thread below:

Dear all,

Since the last threads for this have expired and Work It 2.0 is the gift that keeps on giving...

On V8, disc 1 (CD 31 in total), What version / source is track 1 (Poem / Orgasm)? After hunting far and wide I still can't work it out. It's not the version at the end of The Beautiful Experience TV special or anything sent to European radio in 1994 etc etc. It segues into a mashed up of two versions of 'Come' that make up track 2. Again, no idea where this is from.

Anyone have any more info?

One day, when I've actually made my way through all of the tracks I could share all the info on this forum if people would be interested.

Thanks,

S

My thoughts were that this was sourced from T's PreposiTion set (which is what Moonraker's Deposition was sourced from, in a roundabout way).

In which case do we know where this bootleg got it from? Do they have an official soucre or could it be they are a fan or boot made project? I'm thinking the Poem should at least be official as it seems to have different instrumentation and arrangement to everything else I've found.

This is interesting, however the timing of the track on Work It 2.0 V8 is 1.45 and it segues directly into the next track, the combination of the 2 versions of 'Come'.

The version you link to is a standalone, 3.42 mix (I'm assuming the original full-length version before editing for album).

Which is lovely, if true - I suppose what I'm really asking is what version of 'Poem' is this (for the sake of cataloging all these tracks)? Was it ever officially released in any way like this or is it just some random, work in progress outtake?

Thanks for the reply, though.

Poem was never officially released as Poem in the first place.

Who gave it the name 'Poem'?
On the German 1 track promo CD it's just called Come.
I wish I had that promo folder with that disc.

Hi Joris,

There was a previous configuration of the 'Come' album where a test pressing was created and submitted Warner Brothers. On this version the opening track was 'Poem'. In the final version 'Poem' was split into segments to create the various interludes and ultimately climaxed (pun absolutely intended) in 'Orgasm'.

19 March 1994 configuration

1. Poem (3:36)
2. Interactive (3:06)
3. Endorphin Machine (3:50)
4. Space (4:30)
5. Pheromone (4:24)
6. Loose (3:27)
7. Papa (2:49)
8. Race (4:17)
9. Dark (6:03)
10. Solo (3:51)
11. Strays Of The World (5:14)

Interesting, I'm sure I've heard of Poem but don't remember what the instrumentation sounds like..

It always reminds me of Poet 99 who he collaborated with around this time who also ended up on Joint 2 Joint & who owns the line "Hold Onto Your Wigs" from Days of Wild

Hello VaultCurator! Good to see you on this.

Interesting info on the origins of 'Poem' - I hadn't spotted that.

But can anyone shed any light on what the hell is going on with the version on Work It 2.0 V8?

And while I'm at it... There's yet another version on Work It 2.0 V7 Disc 3 track 14 that is a similar length (1.45) but a completely wacky mix with what sounds like a church bell in it.

Where are these versions coming from?? 🤯

Any elightenment gratefuly received....

Ah ok, I have that old boot CD (Come test pressing) but thought the title was made up by bootleggers.

So are you saying there is a complete different version of Poem..

To the one we know of on the 10,000 Wallpaper boot and the end of TBE movie, and was split up into Orgasm and segues on the Come album

Apparently more than one... have a listen to the V7 and V8 of Work 2.0 if you can.

Hi Scrivello,

I'm at work ATM so I can't listen to the track, but does it end with the line "Join now" and a short laugh? If so that's the NPGMC website jingle. It was part of a short video advert. If I find a link to the video I'll send it to you. wink

Ah ha, yes, sounds familiar (I'm at work to atm as well), in which case could well be what is listed as track 12 here http://www.princevault.co...dio_Show_2.

I will check later as well... Really, I need to get a life here as this last volume eight does have a lot of random crap in the form of various clips / stuff from webistes that serves no real purpose othen than for completeness. Ah well....

I wish I could tell you Scrivello,

I could make some educated guesses on the origins of these Poem tracks, and the remix of Come, but it would be nothing more than speculation on my part.

I'm guessing that Poem and Come from V8, D1 T1&2 are likely from the unreleased 'Come EP'. It's an unreleased maxi single that contained multiple versions of Come. I believe 18 & Over was one of the remixes intended for it.
http://princevault.com/index.php?title=Single:_Come_EP

The version of Poem that segues into What's My Name matches the sequence for the Glam Slam Ulysses stage show.

If my memory serves me right doesn't the short version of Poem before Calhoun Square contain Gold Experience segue effects on it? The 'Welcome to the dawn' keyboard tapping? If this is genuine and not fan made it could be a relic of 'The Dawn' project. Apparently when Prince was working on Come and The Gold Experience in '93 there was a point where he combined the two albums into one large project (similar to when he combined 'Dream Factory' and 'Camille' to make 'Crystal Ball'). It contained both Come and Gold Experience tracks and contained those 'Welcome To The Dawn' style segues. Calhoun Square is rumoured to have been considered for this album, as well as Poem...

Hmmm, it's not the Ahdio Show 2 track after all, on further listen. But yes, it definitely ends with 'join now' followed by an explosion and low synth / wind chimes.

Thaks for the thoughts, VC... The short version of Poem before Calhoun Square you mention (V7, disc3 track 14) does indeed end with the keyboard tapping before cutting stright into Calhoun Square I've got the fan made 'The Dawn 4.1' which does not contain Poem, Orgasm or Calhoun Square, but I see that Poem and Calhoun Square are mentioned on your link above. It's all speculation though. Tricky!
