Prince Wants To Produce Patti Labelle's New Album Not Just A Single Track NEWS - Patti LaBelle Signs With Def Jam Classics, Recording New Album
http://launch.yahoo.com/r...tID=213143 (4/23/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Patti LaBelle has signed a new record deal with Def Jam Classics and is already working on a new album. She joined the label a month ago and said recording began before she even "signed on the dotted line." LaBelle has completed two tracks with contemporary R & B artist/producer Wyclef Jean and the team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, best-known for their productions with Janet Jackson. Other famous names have been courting the veteran singer, including Lenny Kravitz and Prince. LaBelle said Prince doesn't want to just do a single track for an upcoming release, he wants to be involved with an entire gospel music project. "He wants to do, my whole gospel album, according to Prince," LaBelle said. "And you know, it's very deep so he and I are going to have to talk you know, about different things." LaBelle recently released her second cookbook, Patti LaBelle's Lite Cuisine.

So is she working on TWO albums? The one already in progress with these other producers' contributions and then a separate, distinct GOSPEL album, possibly produced soley by Prince?

I wonder what the "different things" are that she wants to talk about.
She probably wants to examine he's religious stuff before she lets him do anything. I'm glad to see Def Jam has a new label. Maybe we can get some of the REAL r&b singers back...James Ingram, Mikki Howard, Anita Baker...can we resign them please.

Good for Patti for protecting her beliefs. But surely Prince realizes that he isn't the only artist who has strong convictions and wouldn't expect Patti -- a non-JW -- to sing lyrics about "stauros," "1914" and so forth on her own gospel album would he? I mean, he's not that far gone, right? Actually, I would love for this album to happen because the compromises necessary to please both artists would result in a set like Lovesexy that can speak to a wide audience of believers rather than a narrowly focused subset of them. Of course, this is also the very reason that I think Prince would never go for it. Oh well, stick to your guns, Patti. Peace, David

forget about it, this will never happen. Once Patti sees how far gone Prince is with that JW bullshit, she'll never let him touch her album...that part of their friendship will be gone forever.

All religions are too similar to cause too much problems..
The problem is The People. The real problem is that every sect of any religion actually believes that they are the "Chosen Clique" of The World.. That everyone else is fodder for the Hell that is being created by: pollution, trash, overdevelopment, and the lack of "Rainforests". If Patti can sign to a label known for promoting Gangstaz and talentless 2Pac-clones, she can record with Prince. I don't see any JW studios and offices being raided by FBI and ATF agents like those owned by one of DefJam's labels. When was the last time Paisley was raided? When was Prince arrested? Prince's style is more eclectic and dynamic than Jam and Lewis. They've sampled "Al Green" for her, without creating a new sound and appeal. Dynamic singers like Patti inspire Prince. He controls them well. I've read positive reviews of "Come 2 My House" that have mentioned his production, and lack of "Over-singing and abusive adlibing". He would do a great job.
